First 'upgrade' with PCS PCS 2 - Local Shops 0!

Okay, so I made a thread abit back asking whether 3 monitors would affect the performance of my computer much etc as opposed to one. I had ordered 2 monitors and a mini display port adapter due to me having an AMD card I need the adapter for the third screen. Needless to say I had ordered my monitors and the adapter last tuesday. Today is now Wednesday and as I had gone to pick up my monitors & adapter I found out that they only had my monitors in but not my adapter as I had already gone in previous last week to see if my monitors etc will have turned up!

So knowing there was another computer shop in town I went there to see if they had the adapter I was after, I explained to the shop keeper that I needed a mini display port to dvi adapter for my amd card. He looked at me with a blank expression as if to say I was an idiot who hadnt a clue what I was talking about! So obviously I wasn't getting one from their today. Needless to say I had picked up my monitors from the first shop and got a refund for the DVI adaptor (They knocked a fiver off for the 'delivery' but I shouldn't have to compensate if they can't provide decent service!)

So immediately, I thought I would use the upgrade service with PCS to see whether that would be any quicker. To put something into perspective, I had ordered 2 monitors and 1 adapter last tuesday and the monitors alone only just turned up today minus the adapter. I placed my order for an adaptor and 2 dvi cables at 13:15 and it had been despatched at 13:52. So trusting the 'locals' wasn't all that smart decision but the speed of my order was printed, picked, packaged and ready for despatching (And having worked in a warehouse it can be a long process to pick things!) that's VERY VERY impressive!

As far as I'm concerned any upgrades I need doing, I won't even consider using my local computer shops. I shall be allowing pcs to do all upgrades (There will be many in the future when funds come my way!) As if the turn around is as quick as that today, Happy wouldn't be the word to describe it!

So as in the title. PCS 2 - Local Computer Shops 0!

Cheers

I've lost count how many times I've used PCS for upgrades... hahah...

local PC shops are always naf, naturally you expect them to be absolute PC hardware gurus! A "new" Pc shop popped up here a few months ago, I nipped in as i wanted to check if they offered any mechanical keyboards I could have a play on... The "technician" as he called himself and another staff member - (who didnt have a clue about anything) didn't even know what a mechanical keyboard was. Took me about 15minutes to explain how awesome they are. He had no decent gaming cases, no gaming kb's or mice. To this day, I have no idea how he even makes any money...cause he had no idea about PC gaming... yet opened a PC gaming store......

Ahah! Ironically my brother just come in asking for advice for a new computer more or less picked the most expensive thing on the check list! Needless to say I saved him a few hundred(thousand!) quid best part being i'm going to be 'aquiring' one of his graphics cards so I'm happy about that at least! Lol.

But when I went into the shop to ask for the adapter, I was a bit taken back at the fact it had on the door 'pc & laptop specialists' my first question to them when he asked what a mini display port adapter was I was like 'How can you call yourselves specialists if you haven't a single clue about the ports on a graphics card!' Needless to say I know I'm not the brightest when it comes to computers but I certainly know enough to know what a decent spec is or what parts are needed if anything should happen to go wrong.

I think PCSpecialist should branch out and have little shops in towns to help with our gaming needs!! :p Lol if only!

They operate by confusing the shopper into buying things they don't need or charge extortionate prices to do silly things. We have a few in this town touting to be "awesome", but frankly a lot of the time they have no idea what they're on about and end up wrangling a more money out of the punter than they really should. I've bought two laptops from PCWorld before and never again, even for a store of their size, I probably know more than them.

Actually Jonny, your story is a prime example of why people need to steer well clear of these "cowboy PC shops". Have some rep. :)

Indeed, PC World are the biggest cowboys of all.

I love it when someone tries to sell you a stupidly expensive HDMI cable in shops like Maplin/Currys etc. These "PC gurus" say things like "why not get this HDMI cable, it's better quality." I just start screaming to myself "THEY'RE DIGITAL THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM!!!!!"

Maplin is THE worst computer shop. They are ridiculously expensive and they don't have a clue about anything.

Maplins are occasionally good (maybe when they've got deals on? I'm sure I've bought something off them before).... No wait. It was Dabs. Dabs are good :).

Interestingly I've been looking at getting additional monitors for a surround setup and no where can beat PCS really. I mean they might be a few £ cheaper (like literally a couple not many) but even the likes of Amazon can't beat PCS offer for the Iiyama's
