Hi, I’m not technically savvy, but I bought my PC from here about 7 months ago, and was working fine until tonight, I was using something on my HDD when I noticed it was kept going on to not responding, and freezing the application for a minute or abouts, so I restarted the PC and went into Fixing (D:) mode its currently stuck on 24% on stage 1 and the time keeps going up, but while this is going on my PC is making a slight whirring or grinding noise I’m not too sure, does anyone know what this is, and if I’m going to have to replace the HDD? Run a chkdsk /b /x on that HDD and post a screenshot of the last page of output. Note that you will have to reboot afterwards because the /x switch closes all open handles to the drive.

If that output shows any errors at all I would look at replacing the drive ASAP. In any case, be sure you have a regular backup of all the data on there.

Thanks for the advice, ive tried everything this morning, it went from not showing up on files page to finding out it, to using chkdsk, it couldn’t even find the drive, to unplugging it, and it then showing up and chkdsk saying it’s raw, there was nothing important installed on the drive only a few files I can re download, and I’ve bought a new one to replace it, will it be as simple as plugging the new one in where the old one was?
