for mainly gaming, is this the best configuration for this laptop while not being too expensive or is there another chassis and configuration I should go for for the same money or less?

Just wanted to point out that If you are going to order 3070 GPU you are in for a loooong wait but I'll leave judging the build to specialists as that's beyond my competence

@Vajra - are you talking laptop 3070s or desktop versions - yes there is a long wait for desktop 3070s at the moment, but this is a laptop build and as such if it doesnt say "awaiting stock" or "due in ........" then PCS are likely to have this in stock already to be attached to the chassis (if its not already)..

what is your budget and what sort of games are you playing - want to play and what else would the laptop be used for.

We can look at recommending to your budget then as there would be one or two changes made to this build.

In particular can you consider:

- definitely a laptop needed?
- 15.6 or 17.3 inch screen?
- will it be plugged in all the time or need battery power for x hours...(gaming laptops arent good for battery life).

Smaller laptop the better, yes it will be plugged in. Would also consider a PC if it wasn't massive and somewhat portable. Graphics card wise, rtx 2080 and above.

Closer to the grand mark better but no more than 1600.

Strange to select something that is £1760 worth of laptop then set your budget to between £1000 and £1700, but basically to try to fit within your budget and give you a reasonable machine, I would consider this (I believe the 17" would be about the same sort of price as well, so your choice on that front):
