Future proof build

Hi Guys,

Hope you're all well.

Posting some specs I've been looking at with an aim to have a future proof rig for a good few years. I've opted for a 20 series as I've currently no need or want to get the 30 series but the build is designed to accommodate the 30 series when the time comes to update.

I'm an absolute rookie when it comes to PC's, I've asked a few people their opinions and changed my motherboard and added the M2 Nvme based on their recommendations. Also looking for some advice and feedback from the professionals here to ensure I'm not missing anything that could prove detrimental to the rig.

Appreciate your advice in advance!

Edit: Main uses, PC Gaming on Ultra Graphics. Budget circa £2k.

Current monitor is Acer Nitro VGC240 24 Inch FHD but happy to upgrade that.

What is your budget, main uses of machine and what monitor using with it, that helps to make suggestions.

Main one is if you are not in a rush wait a couple of months as world situation has pushed prices sky high, hopefully they will start to drop as things easy.

Looking at your build, one main thing is the Intel drive, they do not last as long as others, Samsung probably the best.

Bullguard probably on there by default but drop it, Windows Defender is fine now and Bullguard can cause problems.

On any expensive rig, a fiver is worth it for Silver Warranty.

Thanks for your reply Stephen, I've updated the post for advised, pasted below.

Will certainly add Silver warranty when the time comes.

Good points from Stephen. On top of that, few thoughts:
  • I'd swap the PSU for an 850W RMx. The RMx are a higher quality product, and the 850W variant is near enough the same price as the 750W variant I believe. There have also been issues with the TMx PSUs in the past, although they should have sorted that by now.
  • As said, swap the M.2 for a Samsung - I think the 980 PRO are currently the fastest ones, but 970s are also good.
  • Pretty sure you don't need the Arctic thermal paste, the cooler comes with good quality paste already applied.
  • I'd upgrade to the Intel wireless card.
  • If you already have a PC, might be worth looking at transferring the Windows licence over rather than buying a new one.
Your monitor will be the bottleneck on this build, so I'd look to upgrade that ASAP - I'm running a 1440p on a 2060 Super, tweaking graphics to between High and Ultra to get to 80fps or so depending on game. If your budget stretches to it, might be worth getting a new monitor as well - the Samsung Odyssey G5 has good recommendations, or I'm using an LG Ultragear 27" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync which is good. And if you can wait for stock to come back in, then again if your budget covers it go for a 3060Ti - performance is way ahead of the 2060 Super for similar-ish money.

*Edit - wrote this before I saw your budget come through. For £2k, if you don't mind waiting for stock shortages to come through, then you can get a solid build with a 5600X and 3060Ti with money left over for a new 1440p monitor as well.

This is the build I'd suggest. It comes in quite a lot under budget but should perform well. You could usethe money saved for a Samsung G5! If you'd like to get closer to that 2K budget you could opt for a 3060TI comfortably, but again, you'd have to upgrade the monitor to avoid bottlenecks
