Hi, I'd appreciate some feedback on whether the above build would be suited to playing games of the likes of Skyrim (and the upcoming TESO MMO) on max settings for say the next 2 - 3 years. Any suggested improvements are welcome.

Hi,
For your budget a single gtx 670 or gtx 680 will max games like Skyrim in 1 screen. 2 x gtx 670 should offer closer performance to a gtx 690 and it will be cheaper, you may also want to consider a caviar black as a secondary drive.

I am planning on going with a 2 screen set up. Thanks for the HD recommendation, I should've put that down initialy. I was considering 2x680s as an alternative to the 690 but the price difference is a lot smaller in that case. What would be the tangible benefit in opting for the 690, say vs your proposed set up or 2x680s?

2xgtx 680 will outperform a single gtx 690. With an nvidia gpu, as far as I know, you can't game in 2 monitors but only 1 or 3.

Wasn't aware of that. I will probably go for the 680 set up in any event, and hold off on the other screens till a bit later. I think the cooling on the system should be enough to prevent it from overheating. Thanks for the info.

PS: Updated it slightly.
