Games For Windows Live Shutdown

Hey guys,

Don't know if this will affect many of you or not but it looks like Microsoft are Shutting down their Windows Live Game Client on July 1st 2014.

Although there arent too many games that use this im not sure what kind of effect it will have on the games. The only games i seem to have are the Batman Arkham series and Grand Theft Auto 4.

Personally i think the GFWL service wasn't a great thing i'm still having difficulty downloading the GTA4 DLC and with GFWL gone im not sure if that will also inturn kill off the multiplayer aspect of GTA4 and other games.

They are suggesting all previously purchased content will still be accessable but new content will NOT be purchasable... As such you should spend your MS Points before 22 August to avoid losing any (I might have to switch on the 360...)

UGH RE5, thats going to be a blow.

I wander if there will be a third party taking over or a patch to allow Steam to enable Multiplayer.

I know that Capcom have confirmed that the new Street Fighter will ship with Steam support for Multiplayer and not GFWL

Think Dawn of War games used GFWL.

Would imagine as pointed out already it won't affect your ability to play the games...just wont have that part of it in there (for extras etc)

DiRT 3 was GFWL as well. I didn't know the Batman games were even though I've got both of them, would it be best to get any DLC for them now then? I'm not sure if I even have the DLC for Asylum and City.

Perhaps, you still have a year though. Im going to try and get the GTA DLC tonight.

... glad dead rising 2 and off the record are moving to steam works, hopefully jumping into a co op game will actually work

Early next year Capcom will move the PC versions of Resident Evil 5, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record from Games for Windows Live over to Steamworks.

"With the global popularity of the Steamworks platform, we've seen high demand from fans to bring these highly requested titles to this platform," Capcom said.

"Moving to Steamworks will allow more fans across the world to enjoy these games."

If you already own the games they'll be automatically transitioned over, the publisher said in a post on Capcom Unity.
