I am looking to replace my old dell xps laptop with a high spec new one . I like to play fm, train sim and flight sum so pretty graphic intensive so want the 2070 card for future proof. I've been told ssd is the way to go these days but only need 1 drive 1 TB min thinking of 32 ram not sure what the difference is between models though ? .have a budget if £2000 tops which should get me what I need , I will be taking it to hotels for overnight stays once this is over.

I was told 32 g ram isn't necessary but the relatively low cost to double it seems a no brainer to me .

Given last nights announcement will I still be able to purchase ?
For gaming, 16GB is enough, but on Sims, if you’re loading any texture mods or mods of any kind, then 32gb would be appreciated.

It looks fantastic. If the Simulators are modern day then the 32GB could certainly be warranted. Being an FSX fan my system never uses any more than 4GB so it's a pain.

In your shoes I would consider slightly different storage options but that's purely pragmatism on my part.

I would be opting for a 500GB Evo for the primary and a 2TB 660P Secondary drive. That way you can have your games on an extremely fast separate M2 drive, with all the textures etc.... and the OS and programs on a crazy fast primary drive which you can format and wipe as you see fit without having to re-load all the games & mods.

Just food for thought.

Thanks Guys , yes the textures are the problem on sims which is why I want smooth as possible why only 500 on the first drive out of interest do I not need higher?
I'm a bit out of date with the new specs since my old Dell XPS 8 years ago lol with HDD

The 500 would essentially be just for the OS, being overly generous.

Then you'd put all your SIMS and games on the 2TB

Then if you need to reinstall your OS for whatever reason, it doesn't disrupt your game drive.

As above, the 500GB would house the OS, Software and maybe 1 or 2 games.

The secondary drive is 2TB and almost as fast, you wouldn't notice any difference. This would have your major installs on it so that you didn't need to re-install after a format.

It also keeps your game installs safe should an update fail on the primary drive. It's rare, but it happens.

My FSX install is over 120GB and takes an AGE to install due to all the textures. I didn't want to do it more than once haha.

Yeah that's a monster. Just something of note.... the 2TB drive you have selected is the Samsung Evo..... this is an extremely high end M2 and as much as it's amazing..... it's pricey. In your shoes I would probably drop that down to the 660p as it's not going to make as much of an impact as your primary drive with the OS is.

That being said.... you can't go wrong, I'm just thinking of your wallet :D
