Gaming PC £2500 Budget

Hey all,
I’m pretty new to PC gaming. Currently have an Acer nitro 5 laptop which has been great but I want to now upgrade to a PC now I have the room in my house.

I have a £2500 budget for the PC so I would like to play in 4K ideally. I will be playing games like PUBG,WoW and the new next gen upcoming releases. I really I would like to be playing on the best possible settings.

I have had a look at doing custom builds but I really don’t know enough about computers to know what I would need. I would like one of the new RTX 3080 cards and a good CPU.

mid anyone could Help me out with any of the specs that would be great.

£1k just for the monitor? Seems a lot for a 4K monitor. Have seen them a lot cheaper than that. But thanks for your reply.
You'd need a minimum of 4k 144Hz, 4k 60Hz would be completely pointless and a 3070 would be more appropriate.

Your right, but the 3080 isn’t much more though so just thought I’d get the next best.
It's pointless, you'd never use it, the GPU needs to match the monitor otherwise you're just throwing money down the drain. The 3080 vs 3070 on a 4k 60Hz monitor would be exactly the same experience, just because the 3080 is more powerful doesn't mean it will magically produce some incredible visual experience, the monitor is the final output and if that isn't up to spec, then you won't experience any difference.

It's very important to understand that. We've had a lot of people leaping at the 3080 becuase they don't understand this and it's not the right card for them. These are going to be in very short supply and need to be allocated to those that will actually use it.

If your budget limits the monitor you can get then, wait for the 3070.

Okay, so a 3070 and a 2k monitor would be better then?
What about the actual spec of the PC?

3070 would need a 1440p ultrawide as an abolute minimum, or 4k 144Hz / superwide ideally. You're still looking at around £600 and up for a compatible monitor, 1440 ultrawide is relaly too little even for the 3070, if you're simply looking at 1440p 144Hz, then the 3060 would be the card to go for.

For the PC, an AMD build would be far better.

This would be the ideal monitor IMHO:

Or 4k 144Hz options:

Or if budget doesn't allow then 1440 Ultrawide, but this wouldn't be making the most of the GPU:

Great, should save me a few pounds then. Why would you swap out the processor just out of interest?

Sorry, meant from the i7-10700k to the AMD.
Intels are really really poor and beaten by AMD in almost every metric but most importantly security and futureproofing.

Intel are stuck on a 5 year old skylake architecture on 14nm, these are the same processors as 5 years ago, just overclocked as far as they’ll go. They don’t perform as well as AMD, they’re hard to cool, the platform and chips are needlessly expensive, they don’t have PCIe 4 which most SSDs and GPU’s now are.

There are many more reasons than that but those are the main ones.

Not Decided on Monitor and GPU yet to be honest, just want some help on the rest of the spec, cooling etc. Pretty set on the CPU.

Hello and welcome.
The monitor is the key bit of info. Systems should be specced to your monitor of choice.

If you give us an idea of what you want the PC for that would be helpful too. Just gaming? If so what type of game? MS Flight Simulator, AAA games at high graphics settings or are you looking for esports style games where FPS is king?

If its more than just games - let us know what else you'd like it to do ;)

pretty much just gaming really.

I’m not sure on the monitor. looking into it, It will most likely be a 1440 monitor for now with a view to upgrading in a year or so to 4K.

To be honest I want to be able to play everything on it at good settings. So if I decide I wanna do a bit of Boeing flying sometime I can do. 👍

The main thing that’d be advised is to change over to an AMD chip, they’re so much better than Intel at this point in time 👍
