The Intel 7th Gen CPUs are basically obsolete thanks to the better and cheaper 8th Gen ones (available in this configurator: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z370-pc/ )


Note that the 8th Gen CPUs are on order by PCS, but in my view it'd be bonkers not to wait possibly a little longer for a better and cheaper system.


For a £1000 budget you'd really want to be looking at a GTX 1060 at least, which is much more powerful.


The external DVD drives are much more expensive than the internal ones. Getting a case that supports an internal one will save £.

The SSHD won't help gaming performance. Also you will eventually want an SSD, at which point your SSHD will be more or less redundant vs a regular HDD as you'll have moved Windows, programs, and favourite games to the SSD. So you might as well stick to a regular HDD for now and save £.

Drop the liquid cooler and the thermal paste. It's not needed.

You could spring for some faster RAM.

And spend £100 on a really fast SSD like a PM961.

And still be £20 up on the deal

To recap:
-8th gen CPUs better performance and value
-faster RAM
- drop the sshd
- get a larger and better SSD

etc etc.

For £1360 an i5 8400 and GTX 1070 may well be doable.

Umm..

The 6gb one is about 10% better than the 3gb one. But it costs £63 more. But as above, if you are shopping for a system around £1350 you could be looking at a GTX 1070 anyway.

I think the best thing is if you post your budget and we can suggest a spec according to your budget.

If you need Windows as it's £1063 (with the Black Friday voucher). If you up the GTX 1060 3gb to a GTX 1070, it's £1290 (after the voucher).

I'd suggest about £200, give or take, is the most you might want to spend. That would net you a 1080p 144hz screen. PCS sell a couple, such as the AOC G2460PF

That's a fair way to play it.

Although the i5 is great, the i7 may be more futureproof and support more CPU upgrades down the line.

That wifi card is very expensive. If you're only using wifi to game on the internet, the AC1200 is cheaper and should still suit your needs. If you have bad wifi signal in your house, consider powerline adapters / homeplugs instead.
