Gaming PC

Afternoon everyone

Considering getting a PC, spec below, and wanted some advice/thoughts. I know the next gen cards have just come out, but the games I play probably aren't worth spending those sorts of amounts on right now (i play Medieval Total War games, Civ 5, Football Manager, WoW, PUBG).

Thoughts/suggestions more than welcome

Thanks

EDIT: can someone also explain to me exactly how this cooling system works, and why it's so good?

One hears this said a lot on the forums and I honestly don't understand where it comes from.

If the new graphics cards were all more expensive than all of the older gen graphics cards, eventually nobody would be able to afford to play PC games. :)

The GTX 1080 ti is an extremely powerful card and costs about £700, which is only a few quid short of what the cheaper GTX 2080s are now selling for. The GTX 2070 is set to start retailing for $499 (~£450?) and may provide similar performance to a 1080 ti in current gen games, nevermind new hardware features that will support future games.

So dropping £700 on a GPU that just went obsolete and gives you less performance per £ than newer options isn't at all something I could recommend.

The prices PCS are quoting currently for the 2000 series are very, high. It may be prudent to wait and see on those. And of course, pre-ordering a GPU before reviews are out is pretty dumb too!

Also, if your gaming is quite casual, do you even need that much performance anyway? What monitor are you using exactly?

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Quad Core Processor i7-7740X (4.3GHz) 8MB Cache
This CPU is older than the i7 8700k and offers less performance + is less futureproof for gaming.

Note too that if you wait for the new gen GPUs (available 20 Sept), Intel are releasing a new gen of CPUs in October.

But first things first, what monitor do you game on?

That would offer more performance in games, be more futureproof, and that's with the 2080 still being the better part of £150-200 more than some other vendors.
