I'd suggest not buying this - or indeed anything until AMD's new CPUs are out on 7th July.

It's looking like the R5 3600x will outperform the 2700x in gaming, and be cheaper.

Also there are a new range of motherboards coming.

Nice one. In respect of that I'll hold off, however everything else is sound to go ahead with?

Personally, I'll refrain from comment until the new parts are released.

Cases and CPU coolers affect cooling, and we don't know what the new CPUs will be like in terms of temps. Or the new GPUs also coming out in July. As for storage, we're not sure about the new PCIe 4.0 SSDs that are coming.

Plus PCS's prices and stock may have changed as well.

So anything else we fine-tune today may well be irrelevant in 2 weeks :)

I completely agree with holding off to fine tune anything but I wanted to point out the following:

Motherboard is overkill
RAM is not fast enough
2070 is a poor choice of Desktop card for price vs performance.
Sata SSD should be replaced with a faster M2 variant
I would recommend an RMx PSU over the lower spec options
For cooling the H100X is the go-to option at the moment, otherwise stick with stock.
The WIFI card is the base selection, would recommend at least a 5ghz dual card.

Appreciate the reply. However cost is also a matter and the changes you suggested could add excess of £500 to the order.

. . . ?

How? What spec did you manage to come up with based on that advice?

Stand corrected, £300

Just out of interest as well, can you provide PCS a key for Windows 10? MS keys can be purchased a lot cheaper these days?

Switch out the 2080 for the 2060
Increase the Ram to 3000mhz
The M2 drive could likely be changed.

Other than that, all looks good to me. Should be well within budget.

You don't have to go for a 2080. A 2060 is only ~10% slower than a 2070 but a third cheaper.

You haven't said what monitor you're gaming on, but a 2060 is fine for 1440p.

I'd reiterate my advice to wait a week for Zen 2 CPUs. The R5 3600x is likely to be a better fit for your needs and cheaper than an R7 2700x

Buying a ~£300 CPU now is kind of crazy :)

As for the Windows licences, the ones that are much cheaper tend to be grey market / stolen / bought with stolen credit cards, etc.

I don't think you can give PCS your own key, but you can activate the testing OS it ships with with your own key, or do your own fresh install (I'd do a fresh install personally).

Thanks for your help, and yeah I'll definitely hold off till then.

As for the OS I take it the testing OS is just Windows that they've already installed via USB? All it would require me to do is enter the key to activate it or like you said do a fresh install and then re-install all the drivers.

I do know of many legitimate sources to windows keys but I can appreciate your doubt.

You can do that but I would advise against it. You have no idea how an OS installed just for testing has been configured, or even whether it's complete. PCS state that it's a full system but since you din't actually buy it you can't (IMO) trust that. I would always advise that you clean install your own copy of Windows.

I share Oussebon's caution. There are low cost Windows licenses available to certain groups of users (students for example) but there are also a great many scammers illegally selling multi-user and volume license product keys to the unsuspecting and unwary. You need to be 100% certain that any product key you buy is genuine and you can't always be sure of that just because it appears to work.
