Gaming PC

I am looking to purchase a gaming pc budget of around £1500 - £2000. The main use will be for Cold War and streaming if possible and I am currently playing at 1080p on a 144hz monitor.

I'm not a big PC person but I know that gaming is very dependent on the GPU. Wouldnt it be better to degrade the CPU to a Ryzen 7 3700X and upgrade the GPU.

The GPU has been matched to the screen, you’d actually see very little difference on your monitor between a GTX 1660 Super and a RTX 3080 aside from improved textures and shadows.

If you upgrade to a 1440p or 4K monitor, that’s where you’ll notice a big change. High refresh 1080p isn’t difficult due to what new GPUs can output.

If you want to go 1440p (which I would strongly advise, it’s so much more visually impressive) we can alter the spec and factor in a new monitor too... 👍

No, the maximum amount of frames per second that the monitor will push is 144, which the GTX 1660 Super is perfectly capable of doing at 1080p. Using a RTX 2060 might make it slightly prettier. Anything above that is pretty much pointless.

An alternative for you would be to wait for the 3060Ti to be released. Lets say it's going to retail at £350, which would bring this build up to £1603. That leaves you almost £400 left from your budget to get a shiny new 1440p 144Hz monitor and you can use your old one as your streaming screen. Woop!

Exactly! Hz = Frames per second 👍

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who has been caught out by that. It doesn’t help that places like Curry’s advertise some PCs running Fortnite at ‘311 frames per second’ without actually telling the customer that they’d need a monitor capable of outputting that.

No this is for a friend, posted a new thread because his budget is a bit more than mine and I don't know if there are any upgrades he could purchase compared to my pc.

Godlike
So I've shamelessly stolen Nurse's spec from earlier in the thread (sorry @Nursemorph) and slapped in a 3060ti. 3060ti is about the same level of performance as a 2080 Super, which were the old standard for 1080p 240hz. Noticeable price increase since November, understandable given current global situation though.
