Final Cost = £1388

I'm stuck between which to buy, and here is why:

The AMD has a 120gb SSD opposed to a 60gb (i wouldn't fill a 120gb one up) has the PSU to add a further 5870 in crossfire further down the line, but only has 4gb of ram and a AMD processor which compared to the intel 930 is meant to be really bad, however a AM3 socket would keep me fine until bulldozer is released. Also its near £100 cheaper

The Intel has 6gb of ram opposed to 4gb and has the intel i7 930, which is 8 cores with threading which i assume would be much faster. However it hasn't got the PSU to add a card further down the line and the LGA1366 is meant to be a "dead socket" as intel don't make their processors backwards compatible.

What would you suggest? Also maybe i should change some items? my budget is 1400 max, but the less i can spend the better; yet i still would like a PC that would last years to come.

Both specifications look great. I agree that the AMD offers better value for money however the Intel will win performance wise. I have just been through our system builder and come up with the following;

Case
ANTEC 900 BLACK GAMING CASE (£79)
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-930 (2.80GHz) 4.8GTs/8MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® P6X58D-E: DDR3, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0GB/s, 3-Way SLI
Memory (RAM)
6GB CORSAIR XMS3 TRI-DDR3 1600MHz (3 X 2GB)
Graphics Card
1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5870 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11
Memory - 1st Hard Disk
40GB Intel® X25-V 2.5" SSD (34nm / upto 170MB/sR | 35MB/sW)
2nd Hard Disk
500GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Memory Card Reader
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)
Power Supply & Case Cooling
CORSAIR 850W PSU (TX850) 80+ ULTRA QUIET (£100)
Processor Cooling
TITAN FENRIR EXTREME DIRECT TOUCH COPPER CPU COOLER (£39)
Sound Card
ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Facilities
WIRELESS N 300Mbps PCI CARD (£16)
USB Options
6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD
Operating System
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence (£79)
Office Software
FREE Microsoft® Office Starter 2010 (Limited functionality Word & Excel)

£1179.57 ex VAT.

£1386 inc VAT and Delivery.

With this you would get a slightly smaller SSD at 40GB (intel) but you will get the Corsair TX850 which will allow you to add a second 5870 in the future. If you a certain you will need the 60GB OCZ SSD, I think it will take the price to £1420 which I know is just over budget.

In regards to the comment about the 1366 socket being "dead" isn't entirely true. Intel have just launched the i7 930, i7 960, 980X earlier this year and have just launched the i7 970 just last week on this socket and as far as I am aware there are plans for further launches later this year. So for the forseable future, Intel are still working on the 1366 platform.

Hope this helps!
