I had a look at the options with Ryzen 3rd gen but there are no B450 motherboards available for them, and where B450 motherboards are available they are only for 2nd gen Ryzen and on top of that even when selecting a B450 motherboard the max ram speed possible is 2400 Mhz. I would prefer something like 3200Mhz as Ryzen likes fast memory, but I don't want to spend extra on an x470 motherboard that I will likely not need but which are the cheapest option available for Ryzen 3rd gen here on PC specialist.

It’s not something that PCS offer yet.
For an accurate response you’d need to speak with PCS directly, we can only speculate.

Do you have any ideas why? Is it possible they might be available in the future? Thanks for the quick reply anyway. Would I have to call PCS and ask them directly?

None of us work for PCS so we can only make empty guesses, you’d have to speak to them.

As above we can only speculate as to the reasons.

B450 etc, 2nd Gen, slow RAM: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/amd-am4-home-office/
X470+, 3rd Gen, fast RAM options: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/amd-am4-gen3-pc/

If you look at the configurators with the 400-series mobos, you'll see that the X470 which they also offer in the 3000 series CPU configurator is only £25 more than the single B450 they offer. Granted that's £25 you are keen to economise, but it's not necessarily a terrible price difference. It also offers USB 3.1 Gen 2 type C and Gen 1 type C which could always be convenient in a few years down the line.

Also, they do still do 2nd Gen Ryzen with fast RAM here:

And in mini ITX specs:

I can't say I agree with PCS's choices here either, though ofc I don't know all their thinking. While I can hazard a few guesses, ultimately my guess is as good as yours. :)

If the price difference is only that much, that's not bad at all actually, probably didn't check properly, and those additions like support for those usb ports is pretty good. Thanks for the answer. I actually emailed them with this question and this was their reply "Thank you for getting in touch, now our configurator is set up to ensure the components selected would be the most stable with that setup. This would be the reason why we’re not able to offer a certain motherboard/ram speed. " Possibly easier to get OC ram to high speeds on their X470 motherboards or similar.

The reason I was asking why B450 motherboards weren't available for 3rd gen Ryzen was that couldn't it be possible that mid or higher end B450 motherboards like the B450 Aorus elite could be better quality than low or mid-range x470 motherboards like the Asus Tuf x470 motherboard as that seems to be one of the cheapest x470 motherboards you can get.

I suppose it's possible that one could have better VRMs than another. Unless you're planning to stuff a 3900x in there and overclock it I'm not sure how much difference it really makes.

Although apparently the VRM temps are fine:

I don't think it's an issue worth getting hung up over.

I was making a build and noticed that the adding the 5600x and 3070 raised the price of the build considerably more than RRP. One build with a 3060ti was £911 and one with a 3070 was £1133, a difference of £222.

3060ti Build £911- https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/UTV!uxXmgA/
3070 Build £1133 - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/55TW6TAHaN/

I made a build with a Ryzen 5 3600x at £1226 and one with a 5600x which came to £1433, a difference of £207. Much much more than the difference when buying them on their own on websites such as Amazon, CCL, scan etc.

Ryzen 5 3600x build £1226 - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/F!UhTCdGdg/
Ryzen 5 5600x build £1433 - https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/n8QGBJK!BX/

Is this a temporary thing or permanent, doesn't seem like either part is worth over £200 more.

Its the PC market at the moment. The prices will reflect the price PCS are having to pay to get the stock in. Low Stock + High Demand = Increase in price.

3 weeks ago when i changed by CPU from a 3600x to a 5600x it cost me £90. So it will settle down but i don't expect it for a while yet.

Prices fluctuate all the time based on what they're getting it in from the suppliers down do availability and demand.

It's extremely volatile at the moment so swings are crazy.

Kicking myself as I was going to up my 3600x to the 5600x, but was holding out until after my payday. But as said, the price has since doubled (£90>£180) so I'll have to go without as I can't justify that.

I was wondering what kind of SSD the PCS M.2 SSD is, such as QLC or TLC and if its DRAM less etc., is there any way to find out more information about that SSD?

You'd have to ask PCS, they're just rebranded drives, no idea on the specifics.

They're budget drives though so they'll be basic specs.

If those things are important to you then you go for the Samsung 980 pro, no questions.
