Genesis IV

Hi,
My girlfriends Genesis IV 15.6" laptop is being extremely noisy even while it's pretty much idle.
She has a SSD with integrated graphics so there isn't really much heat generated. Roughly every 15-30 seconds the fans seem to power on to full power and run for around 10 seconds and then stop. It's so noisy that when we Skype, we have to stop talking as she can't hear what I'm saying - even when wearing headphones.

When she runs games such as sid meier's civilization and GW2 it is noisy, which is understandable as it is using the graphics and CPU more intensively. But just Skype and Firefox?

Any solutions or further insights would be wonderful

Regards,

Craig

The first port of call if she feels comfortable enough is probably to open up the laptop and give it a good dusting to make sure nothing is clogging up anywhere making the laptop much hotter than needed and therefore the fans having to work overtime just to keep the system stable (just make sure she grounds herself first and lightly gets any dust out or uses compressed air).

Another option if she doesn't feel comfortable opening the laptop case up is to download some temperature monitoring software to determine if the temps are spiking when the laptop is increasing the rpm on the fans just to try to determine if this is where the issue is coming from.

A laptop cooling stand could be another solution if the cooling in the laptop isn't sufficent to keep the fans rpm at a steady rate or an acceptable noise level.
