Gigabyte GPU - Pulsing Fans

Hey all,

Got my build on the 23rd December (woo hoo!) but only now getting around to installing everything, getting ready for some good solid gaming!

I've been running Heaven benchmark to see how well my gigabyte 3080 handles, and I've noticed that the fans are pulsing all the time (think of a really windy day where the wind is rushing by your windows...that kind of random pulsing, high pitched wind)

I'm using MSI afterburner to try and set fan curves, but no matter what I do, the fans never seem to stay at a steady pace (even if the curve is for 60% speed between 60 to 80'C, the fan will start pulsing around 70'C, but never an exact temp each time).

Using GPU-Z, I've found that one of my fans doesn't stay at a constant RPM at all

(Not sure where the 3rd fan data is either, come to think of it...can't seem to detect it at all, even on HWMonitor).

It's weird to see Fan Speed % for both fans as the same percentage, but the actual RPM jumping wildly (even to the point the RPM's are in the millions for Fan 2)

Does anyone have any ideas why this is the case, or how I can fix it so that all the fans run at the same speed, like Fan 1? It's as loud as hell when the Doom Guy is in town!

I’m sure OC-10GD means something on the barcode bit lol. I know it’s not the eagle because it doesn’t say eagle, and that’s as far as my knowledge of gigabyte goes (I thought I was getting a Zotac, ask me about them 🤦‍♂️😂)

Screenshot below (need to pop out for a bit, will reply shortly)

In GPU-z go to the graphics card page, then click on lookup next to the gpu type, that should show you the exact model.

We need to know if it's the V1 or V2 of the Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC

Hey,

Still nothing. Had it set to 30% startup, and stay at 30% until 60'C and it still does it.

Just to see, I set the fans manually to 90% and 100% and ran the benchmark, and even then, the fans was still pulsing/revving up (not sure how you rev beyond 100% speed).

Just ran Guardian's of the Galaxy internal benchmarking, regardless of settings it will rev.

I'm at a complete loss right now...

Just to close off this thread with good news in case anyone has a similar issue in future:

I contacted PC Specialist regarding the issue, provided them with benchmarks, screenshots etc. They were really quick, providing me instructions to remove and install drivers, check fan curves etc to rule out software issues.

None of the suggestions worked, so they asked if I’d be comfortable removing my 3080 and installing a new one.

Said yes, so they are now organising a courier to provide me with a new 3080, and I’ll hand over my old one. Straight swap, I’ll get the chance to actually do some pc building myself (and I appreciate it’s the bare minimum, but I’ve got to start somewhere 😂)

Not a bad start to the new year, and even though my card has an issue, it’s a hell of a turnaround by PCS, especially at this time of the year.
