Got a new monitor that has seemed to highlight a pc problem

I bought a desktop pc from pc specialist 2 years ago, which has been more or less fine up until now. I had been using a 1920x1080p 60Hz monitor that was almost 10 years old, and I have finally gotten around to getting a new 2560x1440p 165Hz gaming monitor. When I booted up my pc with this new monitor, everything was fine until I launched up a few games, such as World of Tanks and War Thunder (I run nearly the highest settings on these). I kept noticing massive framerate stutters and everything was really choppy - the framerate seemed even worse than my old monitor which was consistently 60 fps.
I found that Alt tabbing to another tab and Alt tabbing back seemed to fix this and the gameplay was really smooth. However, after different amounts of time, i.e. 5 minutes to 20 minutes, it would drop again and become really choppy, to the point that I'm at a disadvantage of playing.

I tried tweaking settings and limiting the display Hz back to 60, but nothing has remedied this. I tried using a different cable for the monitor, as it came with a display port cable, and I plugged in my PS5 HDMI cable and nothing changed.
I've also tried switching back to my old monitor for my pc, and now the problem is happening on that one too, seemingly indicating that there is a problem with my pc now. I tested my new monitor on my PS5 and there has been no problems.

Looking online for similar problems, I found a couple of forums where people have had the same problem as me, in which replies have pointed that it could be a cpu/gpu problem, but no definite answers or solutions were posted.
I've installed the latest drivers as well, but it hasn't changed anything.

I pulled apart my pc a bit to try and clean it a bit to see if there was any serious dust build up, but the problems are still there after I turned it on again.

Just need some advice as to what to do or what the problem might be, whether that's to buy a better cpu/gpu or send it in for inspection.
