GPU keeps crashing while gaming

Hi all,

looking for some help. I recently purchased a Zotac Trinity OC RTX 3080 from PC specialist as an upgrade to my system along with a CORSAIR 750W RMx SERIES™.

I completed the upgrade myself and as far as i can tell i have done everything correctly and everything was working fine however, my GPU is now crashing while gaming.

First time was while playing cyberpunk 2077 about 2 minutes it completely freezing my screen and prompting my PC to restart.

I tried some other games as cyberpunk is known for crashes and had the same issue around 10 minutes into playing. Sometimes it would also distort the screen.

i did a clean install of the drivers but it has not seemed to help.

any advice is welcome.

Did you completely remove the original graphics drivers via the DDU tool (display driver uninstaller) and then restart before installing the latest drivers from the Nvidia website?

Have you still got Bullguard installed?

I hadn't done it using DDU. I have done this now.

tested again while gaming and crashed again. additionally this time when rebooting my PC i had 1 beep then 3 quick beep and no display. Googled that it is a GPU issue so unplugged everything and checked all connections - no issues. Turned computer on and booted up fine.

also i do have Bullguard

Bullguard is known to cause issues, so the consensus is to remove it fully before trying to diagnose issues - even if it was probably working fine with your old GPU.

As this is happening only since the new GPU and PSU were installed, I'd be going around the system double-checking everything is fully secure in their sockets.

What kind of temperatures are you getting just before it crashes?
Temps are fine. around 60-70 max on GPU and CPU

When you plugged in the PCIe power cables, did you plug in two separate lanes from the PSU or one with a splitter?

yeah. tested battlefield 1 for about 10 mins. everything running fine. temps all fine.

Then completely freezes. The screen distorts and then restarts my PC
Hmmm, that sounds ominous, could be a bad card.

The installation all sounds fine, you've done everything right.

What we could really do with is a dump analysis by @ubuysa for some in depth understanding. Can you upload your dump files as per here:

Think i have done this right?

In the kernel dump the stop code is a BUGCODE_USB3_DRIVER - congratulations, I've never seen one of those before! The exceptions code (0x3003) indicates that a USB device failed enumeration. The first thing I'd want to see then is your Device Manager output to check that every device has a driver.

The failing driver is usbhub3.sys which is (of course) the USB3 hub driver. The failing function is UsbHub3!TelemetryData_CreateReport, but I have no idea what that function actually does. - though the name of the function gives us a good clue.

Interestingly, there is an error in the list of function calls by the active thread (which is part of the System process) for nvlddmkm.sys - that's your Nvidia graphics driver...
Code:
ffffd68f`aed529f0 fffff807`3403c900Unable to load image nvlddmkm.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
 nvlddmkm+0xfc900

Since your problems started with the installation of a new graphics card, and we have an error for the Nvidia driver in the dump, then this is the place to start. The USB3 issue may well be a consequence of the Nvidia card/driver error and thus a symptom not the cause.

In your Application log the first thing I notice is that Bullguard is on, I can see its drivers in the kernel dump too. I strongly suggest that you uninstall this completely and use only WIndows Defender. We've had countless people have all sorts of strange issues caused by Bullguard. It wouldn't surprise me if Bullguard was the cause of your issues. In any case you don't want it, nor do you need it.

There are also regular error in there about the Windows Firewall being unable to start properly. That may be Bullguard related also.

Your System log is jammed full of nvlddmkm.sys errors with all sorts of different exception codes. This of course also points to the graphics card or driver.

Are you certain that you have the correct driver for that new card installed? It's not impossible that the card is bad.

But get Bullguard removed first....

Hi i am sure i have the correct Driver installed however to make sure i have:

uninstalled bull guard and does another clean install of the drivers using DDU and getting the up to date driver for my card from Nividia's website.

booted up battlefield 1 to test and seem to be going well for 20 mins so was going to try another game when it completely froze again and distorting the screen making the PC completely unresponsive requiring me to force restart.

The only other things i have seen online with people with similar issues are the card clocking beyond 2000Mhz but mine as not gone beyond that so i am at a total loss.

I would talk to PCS, it might be a bad card. Point them to this thread and the dumps etc.
