GTX 10xx Temps

Hi,

Are there any issues with GPU temperatures on the GTX 1060/70/80 in any of the 17" laptops?

My current Vortex II laptop, specs in sig, has always run very hot (80C+ under load). Looking to get a new PCS laptop and I'd like to avoid the same issues this time.

Cheers!

In terms of desktop GPUs the 1060 seems to run quite a bit cooler than the GTX 1070.

The 1060 seems to run pretty cool by the standards of laptop GPUs - a lot cooler than my desktop 970.

There's a review of the 15.6" chassis with a GTX 1060 in it here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/laptops/2016/09/26/pcspecialist-defiance-iii-review/8 which says the temps barely got above 70 during testing. The 17" chassis I believe have better cooling. This is what Kitguru found of a 17" chassis with a GTX 1060 in it running (the very brutal) AIDA stress test:

As for user reviews with a GTX 1070:
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...-III-17-3-quot-1070-review&highlight=defiance gaming temps seemed fine, though to get decent temps under torture-testing the user repasted their laptop. That said the laptop was able to handle torture testing with an overclock, which suggests the chassis is quite capable of handling temps.

This user said of their 15" Defiance III with a 1070: "I get pretty get temps even under heavy loads as well. My max hit on my GPU so far is 78 and that was because one of the vents was partially blocked."

So I think temps are generally fine. They seem better than some older previous gen mobile GPUs anyway (the Geforce 650M can get into the 80s on the old Optimus we have).

For the Octane chassis with a GTX 1080, the issue seems not to be the GPU but the CPU: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?52069-Octane-Tips-Tricks-Info-and-Experiences It seems quite possible to manage temps but you may find yourself wanting to undervolt.
