Guidance for Photo Editing PC - Now Ordered

The USB Type-C would be more for simple laptop connection. I wouldn't personally connect a desktop in this fashion.

The 3600mhz I would have as it may offer a little bump in performance. It's unlikely as the actual latency difference between it and the 3200 is exactly nil, but there may be other factors where the frequency will offer a slight margin. There shouldn't be any stability issues at these configurations.

The Fractal Define 7 appears to be out of stock. What would be a good alternative? I would prioritise cooling, then sound proofing. If I choose a case with lots of RGB, there is a danger I might decide to dabble in gaming, which might then need some further change, including separate monitors for editing and gaming. My wife would be horrified 😁.

The only potential cases available on PCS appear to be the Corsair 750 and 500. Would either of these be suitable? I would put cooling above noise control and don’t particularly care about RGB. Also, the RMX 850 is out of stock. I can’t see much difference between the RMX and RM, except that the RMX has Japanese capacitors. Other wise, I could step up to 1000W, but the RMX is pre-order (it would keep good company with the CPU and GPU) and the AX is quite a lot more expensive. I don’t mind paying a bit more to get a good build and would rather do that than compromise due to unavailability of components.

I am now wishing that I had got my act into gear earlier and had already ordered. Given that I will have quite a wait for the pre-order items, I may be able to change some items if the stock situation changes.

The 500D SE is probably the best all round case you can get. It's pricy though hence why it's often bypassed in favour of other facets.

The 750 is a great case too, for cooling, it's massive though and not very pretty. The Corsair 4000D Airflow is an excellent case also.

Any of the options out of those are absolutely fine. I have a real soft spot for the 500D SE though, it's definitely going to be my next case (if I ever change from the define, I see no reason as yet..... other than want flashy 500 loveliness in my life).

For the PSU, there isn't a lot in it between the RM and the RMx(i) other than the capacitors...... those would be something I would personally want though. You can't really go wrong in your choice though so just go with whichever option feels right for you.

For the 500D SE are the 3 inlet fans plus the H115i Platinum enough cooling, or does it also need a rear extract fan?

Just to have it all wrapped up in a nice little bow I would add an extractor fan. I would do this yourself though as you would want one of the ML120 RGB fans, so that it is all matching. You can get them for around £15 delivered. The case comes with a fan controller so once mounted you just plug it straight into that.

I assume a LL120 would also do the job of a extract fan, seeing that there are 3 of these on the front? The ML120 seems to be out of stock pretty much everywhere. The quoted price for either the LL or ML seems to be closer to £25 at the moment, probably due to the same supply and demand problems we are experiencing with other components.

Will the case have all the controllers, etc. required to control the fan?

LL120 is the same look of fan, it's just not magnetic levitation, and thus will be more noisy. I can't see past the ML offerings but if they aren't available then the LLs are fine.

Yes ;)

In a thread in the Desktop forum I read that separate controllers are required for ML and LL fans. As the H115i Platinum has ML fans and the case has LL fans, do PCS install the required controllers as part of the build? If so, I assume that I can add either a ML or a LL fan as an extractor, but will need to connect it to the correct controller. Is my assumption correct? I suppose I could always add a 4 pack of ML fans, replacing the case’s LL fans once I have the PC, but that would add to the cost of the build.

The controller for the H115i is on the pump itself, a separate controller is not required :)
