Happy but disappointed

In the same kinda boat, except Fedex are just refusing to ship to me, claiming it's unsendable, so my PC is just stuck in Kingsbury for the foreseeable future. No idea when or even if if I'll be able to get my PC.
mines still in Kingsbury also its been 8 working days and dispatched 21 working days ago fedex people say they will sort it out for me. still no word back from them or PCS its like company's just don't want good reviews and money all of a sudden???

Tbf, this seems entirely more Fedex's problem rather than PCS. My PC has also been stuck in Kingsbury for over a week now. Just finished a call with PCS there and it seems to just be a time thing? Fedex seem to be unprepared to deal with customs post Brexit, so apparently it's just taking them ages to get through the invoices. I was told that if Fedex haven't contacted me by Wednesday to contact them again and they'll see if they can do anything on their end.

So the ideal situation is I'll know what the story is sometime next week, and that Fedex customer service person who said I might need an EORI number just got it wrong. Having to register myself as a business just sounds wrong anyway.

It does look to be a Fedex issue. Assuming you ordered from the PCS '.ie' domain. Your and my order should have the same paper work for shipment to Ireland. Not sure if this is of help but this is the route of my package.

PCS Shipment information sent to FedEx
LEEDS GB Picked up
LEEDS GB Left FedEx origin facility
STANSTED GB In transit
STANSTED GB In transit
ROISSY CHARLES DE GAULLE CEDEX FR Arrived at FedEx location
STANSTED GB In transit
STANSTED GB In transit
DUBLIN IE At destination sort facility
DUBLIN IE Package available for clearance. In transit

Turns out I do need an EORI number? Apparently if an import is above a certain price threshold it is necessary. They said I wouldn't need a VAT number to get an EORI number, but I've had contradictory info from elsewhere, and everywhere I look online about an EORI number seems to just assume you're an actual business rather than an individual. If I'd known just getting a PC would be so endlessly obtuse I may not have bothered.

If after this there's some more hoops I have to jump through I may just give up and see if I can send it back to PC Specialist and get a refund, it's just not worth it.

I was looking to buy a new pc from PCS, but being based in the Republic of Ireland I will need to wait to see what happens in this case for all this EORI number stuff, might be too much hassle.

Probably wise, it seems getting any high value package from the UK to Ireland has become exponentially more annoying.

I can't see any way that you would need an EORI number - no matter what the value of your import. You are not importing to resell.

PCS however may need one and perhaps that is what is missing from your FedEx shipment? Almost every case of delayed deliveries or issues with backlogs are related to paperwork and certification on the senders side.

As the receiver and as a private individual, all you need is to exist and have an address to receive it. And a Credit Card if customs are due I guess. Duty may be due on anything over €150 value but Computers and Computer parts are specifically exempt from customs duty so you won't need that for your PC.

Money Guide Ireland

I would strongly suggest that there is a paperwork issue on the PCS side. Or alternatively a complete screw up on FedEx's behalf - which sadly would not be beyond the realms of possibility.....

I will be very interested to see how this develops with an order of my own in the pipeline - so please keep us all up to date!

Good Luck!

Hmmm, I'll see if I can get into contact with PC Specialist then. Probably not worth calling them now, it usually takes more than an hour to get onto someone and the lines close at 8. Thanks!

I'm not any more clued up on all this than you are ultimately - so it's just my take - but I just can't see 300 million EU residents needing to apply for EORI numbers just to get stuff from the UK.

It all does show just how much damage Brexit is actually doing to the import/export trade despite all the promises that all would be well.

Best of luck anyway!!

(EDIT - just found this also - UK EORI Info )

The guy from Fedex was saying it was because of the total value of my package (near 2000 euros) so maybe there's a value threshold when importing after which you need an EORI number? No idea really, trying to figure out this stuff myself through online research but it's quite hard to actually understand what I need to through all the legal speak and customs gibberish.

I would be quite confident (in my total ignorance of such matters) that the burden is on the seller in this case rather than you. If Irish VAT was correctly applied and no customs duty is applicable then all should be well....

mill keep searching and let you know if I find anything else. I certainly haven’t seen any value thresholds other than €150.

If you are talking to FedEx again it might be worth asking them if it is PCS that could supply an EORI if they think one is needed? Drop PCS an email in the interim and ask them for their number. The answers to both questions would be interesting.

That would be a good shout, willing to try anything at this point.

Right - sorry for the text abuse - just one more thing!

I dug up PCS VAT numbers for ROI and UK. You can enter them in this yoke - EORI Checker - to see if they have been automatically registered for the EORI system. The UK number does not pass that test but the ROI VAT number does.

Maybe if you are talking to FedEx ask them if the Irish VAT number showed on the shipment and/or if they can use that number as the EORI number as the below confirms that it is in fact registered for EORI.

All the below is based on the last paragraph here.

Good luck and G'night!

Sound, might give that a try tomorrow! I'll try get into contact with PCS first though, see what they have to say.
I would, I wouldn’t trust fedex, go straight to PCS and confirm with them, my bet is fedex have lost the export papers or something.
Yeah, I've been checking the forums and seeing other people from ROI receive theirs with minimal difficulty so something definitely doesn't feel right.

So PCS weren't really of any help, they had no idea on what an EORI number was themselves, so that's pretty disappointing. All he did was recommend I get an EORI number as Fedex said. I asked to see if they could check whether they had experience with similiar cases to mine and was put on hold while he checked, but the line cut while I was on hold and when I called back I was now 16 in the queue. This has all been massively frustrating. I'd say PCS should actually know how the process works and inform people of what they will need to ever actually receive their package. Or at least know what is actually happening.

This is especially frustrating cause looking around at the forums I'm seeing other people receive their shipments to Ireland without all this hassle? Strongly considering just getting a refund at this point, all of this is exhausting. At this point, all I can recommend is if you're considering ordering from PCS from Ireland you just don't.

Your case is an outlier as far as I can tell n fairness. That’s not much use to you of course.

PCS’s Irish Vat number is a recognised EORI number as well. I think you have to try asking FedEx to use that as the EORI - telling them you’ve checked it’s a valid EORI even if it might not follow their expected format - and see how that goes....?
