Has my M.2 drive kicked the ghost ?

Got my pc from PCS back in 2019. This evening it froze on me & it wouldn’t even enter task manager.
I got a warning last year about an imminent Hdd failure. And now when it posts I get the message to backup & replace my hdd.
Press F1 to run setup.

I have attached a small screen shot to show the error message.

I’m I correct in think the M.2 is gone ?

Could I just replace with another from say Amazon or should I get one from PCS ?

Thanks for ur advice in advance

Brian

All I can tell you is that if I saw that message I'd be doing exactly what it says on the tin; back it up and replace that drive.

If you don't want to do that yet then download CrystalDiskInfo and post a screenshot of the drive's SMART data from there.

I’m unable to do what you suggest as no matter what i do it always circles back to asking me what i attached in the screen shot.
F1 takes me to set-up. it never boots up into Windows, so can’t even get to download the crystaldiskinfo.

Can’t even back the data up. I’m thinking it’s a hardware failure. It’s lasted me 4yrs, so only a matter of when it fails.

Wish i could.

I'd get a new M.2 drive and install Windows to it and boot from there. Get something halfway decent, say a 1TB drive from a reputable brand (Solidigm, Crucial, Samsung, Corsair, WD, Seagate, etc) and you'll be able to carry it forward into a future build.

You may then be able to see the data on the old drive, but I would not bank on it.

Unfortunately with an SSD if you get any warning signs, they fail really quick, the fact you got warning signs at all is unusually, usually they're working one minute and stone Cold the next.

It's just the nature of SSD's, that's why never store data on an SSD, always on an HDD storage drive.

Plus side is they're cheap to replace and reinstalling windows takes no time these days.
