Have I been stupid?

(I presume you mean 4TB)

Yes, thanks for the correction. 4GB is hardly a single shoot!

So, for the record, I think I have decided on a spec. I've done a harsh evaluation of 780 vs 780Ti, and opted for the former.

Then again, I thought I had finalised before I got all the help here!

So, can any one (looking at you keynes!) give me a good reason to not go for the OC 4790k?

As before, uses being mainly gaming. I was considering that that processor would in a way future proof the system.

You will shorten the life of your CPU, see next to no benefit, and you pay a lot extra for the fancy k at the end.

I wouldn't go for the OC processor for a good few reasons, for a start it's fine at stock and won't effect fps in games (or maybe by 0.5 fps or something negligible), It costs a load more to pay for the OC and then get liquid cooling, It reduces the CPUs life, Increases power consumption and makes for a hotter computer.

The 780ti will increase your fps in games, the OC on an i7 won't (at least that's the way I see it), all it'll do is disadvantage you and go against "future proofing" it due to the loss in CPU lifespan.

Here's an example, this build comes out at £1586, which is only £16 more than your build and has a 780ti:

Case COOLERMASTER HAF-X FULL TOWER GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4790k (4.0GHz) 8MB Cache At 4ghz it'll be more than enough
Motherboard ASUS® Z97-A: ATX, USB3.0, SATA 6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE
Memory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB) No need for faster RAM, makes little to no difference
Graphics Card 3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780 Ti - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready Better GPU, which will increase FPS, unlike the overclock
