HDD Failure ? Can I boot from DVD instead? If so - how?

I have a 2015 vintage Vortex laptop (from PC Specialist)
As of today I am getting the following errors when trying to reboot:-
PXE-E61: Media test failure
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Reboot & select proper boot device

I notice that in the BIOS setup the boot order has been switched to use "P3: TSSTcorp CCDVDW....." instead of "P0: SandForce {2000".
And also in the SATA settings the "SandForce {2000" drive on Port 0 now shows as having a "0.0GB" capacity

Seems to me that the primary drive is SAFNU'd -- is this correct ?

Is there a way to boot this system from the DVD drive ?
I don't seem to have a bootable DVD for this laptop - is there a way to get one ?

Many thanks

Yeah, if it’s showing 0 on the drive size, it’s very likely a failed drive unfortunately.

May be worth removing it and reinstalling it before ordering a replacement just to be sure.

You can just order a replacement drive, they’re not expensive and easy to fit.

You can’t boot without a drive, that’s where the OS resides.

If you have data on the drive and it is not totally defunct there is a rescue chance.

Download a Linux iso to a bootable USB, Ubuntu would be a good choice. Do not take the install option but use the "Try Ubuntu", it will then run from the USB, so be quite slow but will give the chance to look at the main drive if parts can be accessed. This will only work if the old drive is an HDD.
