Headset or USB issue

Hi,

I recently bought a Defiance III Laptop and just tried to install a Tecknet HS800 headset (admittedly i went for cheap crap).

I plugged it in, followed all the instructions i.e. adding the drivers / software for windows 10 from the supplied CD.
The lights worked, volume buttons on the chord worked but no sound came through at all.
I tried all the windows 10 fixes i could find online, i.e. disabling speakers and setting the headset as default speakers etc etc.
My Samsung headphones from my phone work fine through the normal headphone jack.

I just tried installing the headset on my work computer (windows 7) and they worked straight out of the box, i didn't check if the 7.1 worked but there was at least stereo sound coming through.

I'm concerned it could be a sound card or USB issue. My sound card is as per the below:
Sound Card: Intel 2 Channel High Def. Audio + MIC/Headphone + SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3

And USB's:
4 x USB 3.0 PORTS AS STANDARD (although i can only find 3 and they are all marked as 3.1???).

One other thing which is also weird.

I had a crappy cheap wireless mouse from Asda which i had installed in the USB on the right side of my laptop - this worked perfectly fine.
I bought a new wireless mouse with better DPI/more buttons and when plugged into this USB it says that the device is not recognised.
However, it works in the 2 on the left side (I've got absolutely no idea where the 4th USB is located).

Anyone offer any advice on either of these issues?

Thanks in advance,

Dale.

I'm assuming you've tried the headset in all USB ports?

Apart from the Asda mouse, does anything else work in that USB port?

Did you buy it with Windows 10 pre-installed or did you install your own OS?

Regarding the ports, the Defiance III spec says it has 3 x USB 3.1 type A ports and 2 x USB 3.1 type C ports. On the images on the website the 3 type A ports are the blue ones (one left, one right, one back) and the type C ports are on the right (you'll need a type C connector to fit them).

I tried it in all 3 USB ports, and i even re-installed it with it plugged into each of the Type A ports individually.

My laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed by PC Specialist.

I might just have to forget about the whole 7.1 surround sound headset idea, there seems to be several issues with almost every single headset I've looked at, ranging from £300 down to £20.

I still don't understand the USB on the right not recognising my new mouse when in theory it should be identical to the 2 on the right.
I've not tried anything in there other than the new mouse and the headset so ill try my phone USB tonight. Can faulty USB's be fixed under warranty?

Thanks,

Dale.

Then all the necessary drivers should already be there

A call to PCS should be able to confirm whether or not these headsets work on your laptop

That worries me too. I would certainly call PCS tomorrow (don't email, it's too slow) and talk over this USB issue with them, you could discuss the headset problem too. If there is a problem with the USB port on the laptop it's covered by the warranty.

Thanks for taking your time to try help me out.

I just tried all fixes I could find online for that particular USB port, i.e. disabling power saving or w/e it is, re-installing drivers, trying without power plug in etc etc. I went through 6 fixes in total and nothing makes it work.
However, my phone plugs in that one no problem and works perfectly. likewise I plugged in that old asda mouse again and that works fine in all 3 USBs. The issue appears to be isolated to the new mouse in that particular USB port.

I tried going through the technical support part of the website but as you say they take a while to respond.
I'm at work all day tomorrow but I shall ring them on Friday.

I'm 100% stumped.

Yep, call them Friday. When they're busy (which is almost always) email and online chat often take a backseat.

Do let us know what the resolution is.
