Help A Noob Out?

Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone can help this will be my first venture into a custom pc and hence i have no real clue about specifications for my requirments. I am going to be neEding a computer that can run unreal engine 3 as i am starting a course in games development and home work with this program is a big part of the course, and at the moment i only have a 3 year old laptop, that can barely run minecraft . I would also like the pc to be able to run the newest games at a good level like battlefield 3 and skyrim as of course i need to do reserach . my budget is £600-800. could anyone tell me if this is an achievable goal on this budget, and if so what is a good rig.
