Help Choosing Gaming PC - €800 / Nvidia RTX

Hello,

I would be grateful for some help in picking out a gaming PC for my son. I know nothing about Windows or gaming. His budget is at least €800, that's for the tower only, excluding monitor and peripherals. He wants an Nvidia RTX graphics card.

So I click the PC GAMER link and the first option is the Vortex Elite (Intel) with a starting price of €643. I see a choice of 4 Nvidia RTX cards:

6 Go NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 - HDMI, DP - Compatible VR !
8 Go NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 SUPER - HDMI, DP - Compatible VR !
8 Go NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER - HDMI, 3 DP - Compatible GeForce RTX VR !
8 Go NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER - HDMI, 3 DP - Compatible GeForce RTX VR !

If I pick the first one, the price goes to €831.

The second option is the FUSION LX (AMD) with a starting price of €798. If I change the graphics card to the RTX 2060 the price goes to €942.

Would either of the above two options be a sensible starting point? Any other factors that I should consider? All advice would be gratefully received.

Kind Regards,
Erik

Fantastic, that's a huge help, I can't thank you enough.

So my son will have to hit up the family for Christmas money to see if he can stretch his budget that far. If we get to that point I'll repost the final spec before we order.

Hello,

I would be grateful for some feedback on the spec below. My son is looking for a gaming PC, his budget is ~1400€. He started with the "Fusion XR" build but completely switched it around to match a spec that he saw recommended on youtube. Below is what he came up with, is this sensible?

Kind Regards,
Erik

Hello again,

He increased his budget slightly but also, on the advice of a youtube video, switched from the Geforce to a Radeon RX to try and stretch his money further. Below is what he has come up with, I would be grateful for your feedback:

Erik

Sincere apologies, there is confusion on our side due to my lack of knowledge and my son going off in different directions, I will try to get back on track:

- He has increased his budget from €800 to €1,400
- He now prefers the Radeon over the Geforce
- He wants RGB RAM

Coming back to the spec that you provided earlier at €1,144, what changes would you recommend given the above? Many thanks for your patience, we are grateful for your help.

Kind Regards,
Erik

OK, Here is my naive attempt to update the €1,144 spec that was first recommended.
- I changed the graphics card from the GEFORCE RTX 2060 to the RADEON RX 5700 XT.
- The given CPU was not in stock so I upgraded it to the next one available.
- The web site advised me to upgrade the power supply from 550W to 650W
- The web site obliged me to choose a case
- I don't see an option for RGB RAM

Is this spec sensible?

This brings me to €1,375, which is just within my budget of €1,400.

I would be grateful for any feeback.

Got it, many thanks. That takes me to €1,389. Is this a sensible build, can I go ahead and order that one?

So the machine arrived. The HDMI socket has a plastic plug in it - is this to protect the socket, or is it telling me that HDMI is not supported? There is another socket which, if my research is correct, is DisplayPort? Our monitor is HDMI, can I simply purchase a converter which will allow me to connect the DisplayPort PC to an HDMI monitor?

The simplest solution would be to post a photo if you can... HDMI should certainly be possible!

You sure you're looking in the right place at the outlet for the card rather than the motherboard?

Many thanks for the responses, we will try again in the morning and report back!
GPU's often have little plastic plugs in the display outputs, they should just pull out.

If it's the motherboard, it may not pull out, but as above you don't want to be using that anyway.

It's working now. Many thanks! The HDMI port on the motherboard was blocked. The one on the graphics card is working.
