HELP REQUIRED - Desktop PC for my daily needs

Hi Guys,

Was given great advice in the past so would like some more for my new purchase.

I'll be looking for a desktop, monitor, mouse and keyboard and will be purchasing this from PC Specialist.

Max budget £1000.

I dont game much on the PC but do play Football Manager a lot and it would be great to be able to have the opportunity to game on the PC at a later stage if need be/interested but i'm aware £1000 might not get me high end.

I will hook my Xbox one up to my monitor to play COD, Fifa etc online so would prefer good monitor with good frame rate. Assume needing multiple HMDI ports for desktop and console. Monitor with potential speakers unless they are thrown in taking into consideration the budget. I'll also be watching some of the football on the PC so a monitor that is a good enough size for gaming/watching sports.

Just to be able to handle day to day things such as internet browsing, downloading, Microsoft Word and streaming etc. Ideally i would like to have this PC last for next 5-8 years with potential to upgrade if need be.

I dont know much about any of this so apologises in advance and thanks for your help!!

Ryan.

Oh forgot to add my router will be located in one area of the house and the pc in another so likely the desktop will need to have built in WiFi capabilities if possible?

Hiya, this isn't really my area I have to admit, I'm ok at the big budget builds, but regarding budget builds, I'm a little sketchy, but I'll give it a shot.

Do you need windows?

Yeah mate will need windows.

Pretty much need everything, was trying to track Oussebon's responses to builds similar to mine but cant seem to get anywhere.

I'll say outright, I'm not so good with budget builds, Oussebon is really the guy you need, he knows how to eek every little drop out of a budget.

The nearest I could come up with is the following, but I'd definitely wait for further input. This would leave you about £200 for a 1080p screen which I'll look at after:

As for monitor:

It's 23.6" 1080p 144Hz and with a slight curve.
MSI Optix MAG241C
Seen at PC World for around £170

Decent size for watching movies, excellent price considering it's 144Hz AND curved and would give better performance for PC gaming.

MSI have only recently got into Gaming monitors, but they've all been extremely good at very competitive price points.

Looks like a great set up.

The internal storage - I assumed 1TB would be standard just purely for storage options. I'm wondering if this will be enough or if i will need to have an external storage at some point?

The monitor looks beastly! Do you think it will work well with hooking my xbox up to it for gaming? as i just use the console at the moment but would love the ability to play mid level pc games if need be.

Are there any monitors from PC Specialist that are similar? just so i'm getting everything from same source or would you recommend this one over the others??

Speakers - dont think there is any with the monitor you specified, any decent PC Specialist speakers??

Also the monitor you recommended has 2 hdmi ports - i assume i can hook up both my desktop and console??

Sorry i have no tech insight whatsoever

Yes, the storage is a little on the slim side. The 512 SSD is blazing fast, so will give enormous performance for anything stored on it, primarily thinking for Windows and Games.

You could add a further HDD, you can pick up a 1Tb for about £50 later on when funds afford.

This is similarly with the RAM, you could add a further 8Gb further down the line which would give a performance bump for gaming.

Yes, the monitor you could support both the PC and the console plugged in at the same time, but you'd have to switch between inputs ie, you couldn't have both displaying on the monitor at the same time.

IMHO, the monitors PCS offer are a little - dare I say it - old stock and you can find better elsewhere.

TBH, I may have overestimated your PC gaming requirements. If you're more gaming on the console apart from FM, we could respec it a little.

For the £50 extra would I be best adding it on just now? I could push my budget slightly if it means I wouldn't need to upgrade anytime soon.

I think I'll go with the monitor if you think I will get more out of it.

Yeah most of gaming will be on the console with call of duty and FIFA so ideally good monitor for playing them online. I do play alot of FM but pretty much any desktop should be capable of running FM. simulator games are pretty good to play but I could tone it down as I wouldn't say I game on the pc to warrant the ability to game, but would be good to be able to play mid level games on medium settings if possible - if that makes sense?

spec delta case looks much too closed off at the front

That’s a much better build for the price and still nets you enough for that monitor. Would make a pretty sweet setup with good options for upgrades down the line.

Much appreciated!

Am I right in thinking I could just add an additional 1tb to the 1st storage drive so I have enough storage?

Thanks again

Yep, they're not expensive either. Make sure it's a 7200rpm drive, but not the barracuda pros as they're needlessly expensive for no gain.

Thanks mate.

I've picked the 2tb Seagate Barracuda Sata-III 3.5 HDD 6GB 7200 RPM 256 MB cache. Would this one be okay??

I'll then purchase the monitor you mentioned. Really appreciate your advice guys I'm such a noob when it comes to this stuff

Yeah, that'd be fine. They're good drives for the price.
