Hi, I’m looking to get a good gaming computer but my budget is very, very low. I’d say the cheapest you could get like £300 or something to maybe £600. I spent a while designing one and I think it’s pretty good but it’s £680 and I think I should get some possible builds from more experienced people. The attached image is the build I came up with. Thanks.

A good gaming PC simply isn’t going to happen at £300-£600, I’m sorry to report.

You’ll have to save some more money, ideally £900+ or game on console, which is much more attainable with that budget 👍

Thoroughly agree, you won't get anything worthwhile at that price, it's just not possible, save up a bit more.

Thanks for the info. I probably shouldn’t have phrased it “good” because that word with gaming pcs would only be expensive. The only thing I really want out of it is decent frames, decent graphics and stuff and a pc that can actually handle games lol. There have been multiple games where my pc just isn’t good enough to run it so I just need a half decent computer.

Well if you can save up a bit more and come back we’ll try and get you something that’ll last you 5-10 years (with a few GPU upgrades during that time).

And if you’re running Windows 10, you can probably knock off about £100 from the new PC as you’ll be able to transfer the license from your old one over to the new one 👍

Hey so I know that my budget is very low of probably as low as possible so like £300 to about £500 but I was wondering if someone could whip up a quick build for me that could run games decently. Haha I know this is gonna sound really dumb but the pc I have now can't run the game Detroit: Become Human and I really, really want to play that. It also can't run a lot more so please just get me a decent one it doesn't even have to be something that you'd consider "good". Thanks :)
PS. The file I added is the build I came up with so let me know what you think of it. I really want to get it cheaper though.

As said previously, there's absolutely no way you can do it at that budget and have something even remotely worthwhile.

You need to save up quite substantially more money, and aim for around the £900 mark. Prices have risen due to covid, but even before then you wouldn't be able to do it at that budget.

Oh ok. Sorry I’m a real noob at all this stuff so I’m gonna sound really dumb. My brother got his for about £700 and it is more than what I need. I’m not sure though.

As said, prices have risen with Covid, it’s just not possible below £900 currently for a system that will last the expected lifetime of a pc. You could buy a throwaway PC that would last maybe a year, but that’s not something we would be able to advise on as it’s not in your best interests.

I'm not sure what you're not understanding, but this just isn't possible at this budget. You need to save up more.

There is NO WAY to do it at that budget, you need a minimum of £900

I am very new to pc building so I was wondering if this is a good build. If not then please recommend another build around same price. People have also said that I could download windows onto a usb and plug into my pc to save almost £100. However it doesn't let me check out without it or at least thats what i think. Someone help?

You can buy a windows license elsewhere but it will still cost money. You can't use windows without a valid license.

As said previously, at your budget, it's just not possible to configure a PC that's worthwhile.

We've no idea what 'good' means to you.

We also have no idea what your brother's £700 build is.

So 'unknown' + 'unknown' does not give us much to go on.

If your brother's build is good enough, ask him what it is (or what's in it) and then see how much it would cost to build that now. If it's more than the £700 your brother paid, then it shows you how much prices have risen.

If it's less than £700, then it sounds like you'd be happy with it, so buy the same - or offer to buy his so that he can upgrade?

Yes, you will see 'gaming' PCs advertised all over the internet from £200 upwards, but you can also technically game on any old PC (or Mac)...so you can see how these unscrupulous sellers can get away with it...but your experience will not be 'good' in any sense of the word.

BTW, it looks like Detroit: Become Human gets less than 60fps @ 1080p Ultra on a GTX980ti CPU, so on a GTX550 you'd be lucky to get 25fps...which is not 'good' however you spin it. Recommended GPU spec for that game on Steam is Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 with 4GB VRAM minimum (Support of Vulkan 1.1 required) - however that's just the recommendations for one game.

I have cut every corner there is going here. This is quite literally a dead stop on how low I would even consider going. In fact, I wouldn't actually recommend this at all as you will have a FAR better gaming experience on a next gen console compared to this.

However, insistence leads me to this. You would need to transfer your current windows license onto this one to have the savings mentioned. This comes without Windows.

I must re-iterate, I do not recommend you get this build. I recommend you get a console. That aside, this is good as you'll get anywhere near £600.

Sorry for may previous post, it was meant as sarcasm, but it was deleted whilst I was trying to edit it to say why you really shouldn't (got stuck on bullet points not appearing - is this a known forum bug or just me?).
