How Much Ram should I have for using Virtual machine

Hello everyone just wondering how much ram I should have installed in my PC.

I currently have 8GB at 2400hz running at 2133 on my z77 sabretooth Motherboard. While this may be plenty for gaming I am not sure how much I should have for running virtual machines on my PC. I wish to run windows 7 Ultimate for study purposes. Also may install Linux in a virtual environment. I made my purchase thru PCS.

Any Thoughts???

Thanks

You have not really posted enough info for anyone to answer the question. What do you intend to do with the VM, what software will it run etc.

Might be worth a try sticking with your 8GB for a start and playing with how much memory you actually end up needing before adding more to suit.

I intend to make changes to the operating system Windows 7 Ultimate using books for MCDST Studies such as Windows AIK and/or settings to practise according to the study material. Linux just for personal learning to see what the system is like.

I don't know too much about this, so it will be worth double checking, but I believe that windows 7 itself will need 2GB to run in a usable state.

I would advise you find a forum that specialise in this kind of thing to get accurate info, im all tapped out on my knowledge of this kind of stuff. Not to say someone else wont be able to help out with more detail but it might be quicker going elsewhere.

Hope I helped some anyway.

8GB is plenty for a Windows 7/8 host, as well as a Windows 7/8 guest and Linux Ubuntu guest all running concurrently.

Thanks very much guys..I did read somewhere that virtual machines may require additional memory that's the reason I was checking
