I play Civ 6 all the time. Is this a good spec?

I expect you have chosen those drives because of budget and the fact you say you only play Civ 6, however, for an extra £7 you might has well have the 512GB PCS M2 drive rather than the 2.5" storage - this would help with load times of the game.

Remove Bullguard

Go for silver warranty - its only an extra £5 and it means returns are covered postage wise for a year not just a month.

Some questions:

Is it purely Civ 6 only - or other games at times?
Any other usage?
Budget?

Thanks for those tips

I mainly play Civ6 on my Lenovo Thinkpad 510 - The Video Card is a GeForce 940MX with 2GB RAM - usually running at 95% while the onboard graphics are running at 20%. I have 8GB RAM at 2133MHz. It is a bit laggy and jumpy at times.

I occasionally play Age of Empires and Stellaris (although not sure if it is possible to win!!)

I'm not really into shoot em up type games

I also use the laptop for powerpoint presentations (with embedded video)

Budget - I could go up to about £1500 ... was wondering whether to go for something with a 3060 video card ... or is this overkill?

Does it have to be a laptop?

In all honesty for your gaming usage, you wont really need to go up to the 3060 and the trouble is really that its all pricey at the moment due to various shortages etc. BUT we always say with laptops to go for the best graphics card you can afford as this is a component that cannot be upgraded as it is usually soldered onto the chassis.

The Ionico is apparently a good machine, but I do like my Optimus Pro :D

Would be nice to go for the AMD Ryzen, but this is where shortages and cost come in unfortunately.

16GB ram is sufficient for what you want.

Just one hard drive and only 512gb - I assume you would be looking at adding one later as well?

Ideally, the way it is suggested is a smaller 512gb drive for the operating system and applications then another drive - like a 1TB M2 for your games / work files etc.

This way then if you need to reinstall windows you dont need to download all your games again or lose your workfiles.
