If I could build my build again...

I got my system last year, and admittedly was in a rush so it was within weeks of the RTX 30's and i still didnt wait... and I alwayys starting getting a bit itchy when new stuff comes out after ive just bought something.

I keep wondering what I would build if I did it all now, 6 months later, and so I went and found out.
Whats worse, is I think its only £200 (£2600ish) more than what I paid for my build (in the midddle of a price spike!) :O

Found Razer Raptor screen for £425 so Lian Li/Razer theme wouldd be kinda cool...and go with my mouse (Mamba)..
Or Asus Tuf VG27AQ for £440 ... I would still want a IPS screen, so options are a little tougher without spending lots or settling for curved screen (which I dont like, sorry!)

Just wondering, if you had a similar budget to before and had a new system in last couple of years, what would you do with it now?

After a few tweaks from the guys on the forums and explaining I had some poor choices this was the build I ended up with, started off with the budget around the exact same as yours and finished going a bit higher but I think it’ll be worth it a lot once I get my hands on it

Funny, I've just checked a price for my build yesterday (which I later cancelled as waiting new GPUs to be released and was hoping 5600X to become cheaper) from November, and now same would cost me 230 Euro more. That was 3600X with 2060.

I took a 3800XT, its still only £50 less than the new 5800X. Biggest block with mine was my choice of monitor, I sunk near £600 due to IPS and being picky how it looked. Its interestting to just see what my budget could have got me if i'd been able to wait, and really sat on the spec choice for a few months.

@sibun1 Not much different to what I ended up getting myself after all my 'enforced changes' were made.

Mine went through many changes over the course of 3 months, and original ordered the 5600X and RTX3080 combo, but in order to get the PC before Christmas I called up and was told if I swapped to the 5800X and RTX3070 and 1000W RMx PSU they would start building it immediately - so I did, and it was only about £30 to switch (CPU/GPU increase/decrease cancelled each other out).

In addition to that suggestion, in my early days as a field technician, I got swapped an old IDE drive while the machine was powered on on a 15 year old production pc in a factory. Was so used to SATA drives that you could hot swap. Fried the drive instantly and the company had to pay a few grand to have the data restored from it!

To be fair, they should have had some kind of backup system in place, and especially should have backed up before I started working on it.

I lost 3 months of coursework for a computer programming course when I creased the 8" floppy disk loading it into the SYSTEM36 we were using to compile the programs (didn't think backups were cost-effective back then).

On the other hand, I've also got myself out of a jam where I risked losing a year's worth of project close-out documentation, when I wiped the HDDs (before returning them to the rental company) before triple-checking the backup was complete.

Got it home to my own machine to make duplicates for myself, client & their end-client but the Jaz disk wouldn't mount in my drive. Spent a couple of hours trying, reinstalling drivers, then went and bought another drive just in case...but all my other disks were mounting fine.

Finally, with nothing to lose, I opened up the enclosure and noticed the little stop for the 'disk cover' was held in by sticky tape and was not releasing the cover properly. Removed the stop, but it still wouldn't mount, so disassembled a known-working disk and swapped over the innards...et voila!

Quickly did the 6 duplicates I needed and sent them off to the client.

Never trusted Jaz discs again!

All of my Darwin awards are mechanical/engineering related rather than tech - and I have a few clangers in those categories too! But I'm happy not get any more certificates from @AgentCooper for now.....

I looked at my build - would be €150 more for the same thing today versus January. What I received was fundamentally different from my initial offering - all due to the advice and opinions of the usual suspects on the forum here.

I do think post-morteming (is that a word/phrase?) your builds is unhelpful though - like everything in life you make your decision on the basis of the information and the needs that exist at the time. Anything that comes to light subsequently is as irrelevant as the 'ueue' in Queue.

I like the look of the 220T, but i'd be nervous about GPU's getting too big. My 5700XT would be very snug inside that case.
