Inferno Build - Work/Play

Hi all,
First time buying from pcspecialist - have been a long time ThinkPad and DellPrecision user. My current M6500 is getting to the end of its life and decided to bite on this little machine.

I looked long and hard into taking the i7-3840QM but in the end I didn't think the small machine could handle it, though it would have been useful to me [as] my machines are mainly used for research - numerical simulations and the occasional bit of gaming. Out of curiosity has anyone tried the w110er with the i7-3840QM?

Hi, I got my Inferno with very similar specs (I have 8GB RAM and Scorpio Black HDD) and it is absolutely amazing. I can do video editing, moderate gaming, screen recording and web browsing in the same time without any decrease in performance. (AWESOME!) I really recommend it. Although, if I had unlimited budget, I would go for SSD.

Howdy thanks for the reply! nice to hear that you're enjoying the Inferno (looking forward to my own).
It really does look like a great machine. I haven't tried a hybrid drive before, giving that a try before going for a SSD - I still feel like it's still just too expensive for me.
I would rather put the extra funds into another nice external monitor!

I'm also delighted with my Inferno, which I'm typing on at the moment. I have a WD Scorpio Black HDD and it's very quick and responsive, so a hybrid drive should do very well for you. With an SSD it would absolutely fly, but the cost per GB is a lot more, of course. And one of the best characteristics of the Inferno with HDD, in my opinion, is that it's brilliant value for money.

They've been around for a few years. They are good 7200 RPM HDDs. In cases where the Momentus does not have data in its solid-state cache, it will (according to reviews I've seen) be about on par with a 750GB Scorpio Black. It should be a lot faster, of course, when it does have the data cached.

Btw, I wasn't intending to suggest you should get a WD drive. The Momentus seems a good choice to me. Would be very interesting if you could let us know what kind of boot times it gives you after a few days, when it is has had a chance to optimize its cache contents.
