Installing a SSD into a 3+ year old asus laptop

I have an old asus K55A-SX417H

ASUS K55A-SX417H, Intel® Core™ i5-3210M Dual Core Processor, 15.6" HD
Screen, Microsoft Windows 8 64bit, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 1000GB HDD, DVD
Rewriter, Integrated Graphics, K55A-SX417H

Looking to install a 240GB or 480GB SSD.

What ssd & cloning software would you recommend?

Samsung 850 Evos are good and the Samsung Magician (whatever they call their clone thing) does work as I've used it myself. But they can be a bit more expensive.

Sandisk ones are fine (Plus, Ultra II), Crucial ones are fine. I guess see what you can see at your favourite retailer and check a review.

Kingston V300s are said to be best avoided, though other Kingston ones like Hyper X Savage and so on are good
