Intel Delidding

Seen this a lot, people delidding their Intels to help with cooling, am going to order a new PC soon and want to get an overclocked 8700k, worried about temperatures, wondered if PC Specialist were interested in doing pre-delid service I think there could be some potential there, not confident enough to do it myself or I'd build my own PC of course.

It's a very valid suggestion and some other stores do offer this - though often in combination with pre-binned CPUs.

However the 4.8GHz overclock offered by PCS for the 8700k really doesn't warrant delidding the chip. The risk and the need to redo it periodically, and the fact the CPUs are easily cooled enough by a Noctua air cooler or one of the better Corsair Hydros make it not worth it. The expense would make it terrible value for the buyer as well.

Thats good to know, I will be getting one of the high end Corsair water coolers, and what you say about periodically doing it puts me off the thought now, sounds like more risk than reward honestly.

Wow, you don't half learn some stuff on here. Delidding. That's a new one for me and it gets my vote for word of 2018....

I’d highly recommend the Corsair H100i, it’s very efficient and reliable in the main. You do get the odd unit that has a faulty pump, but PCS would be quick to swap any failures. I’ve got one and am extremely happy with it.
