Intel PC Advice?

Found some more cash, so I decided to up the specs I was thinking of getting a bit. Does this build seem sensible? I'd want it for some gaming, as well as general internet usage and so on. Also, I was wondering if overclocking a build like this would be possible/advisable... And will everything fit nicely in the case I decided on?

Great GPU, CPU and case. You could drop the case down to get it smack on £900, but i think it's a great case both looking and features such as cooling.

No real need to overclock your rig for gaming, You'll see no benefit to having a higher CPU clock speed, as gaming is mostly based around the GPU, hence i went for the non 'k' version of the 2500 :)

I think Corfate's build is decent, but he is right regarding being able to drop the case back to the T900, as this would do the job tbh. Then upgrade from 4gb to 8gb Ram (costs £16): you won't really need 8GB unless you're video editing/encoding, but 4BG is a cutting it fine, and by upgrading it, it gives you a more solid/longer lasting build.

I'm not sure I can justify the extra £101 on a graphics card... Given that I don't care too much about the higher settings for games, would a Radeon HD 6870 or 6850 instead be a decent choice? Would modern games be at least playable with the cheaper cards?

I've got a similar spec - i5-2500 and 6870 - and although I haven't tried it on any of the latest games it rips through old games at 1920 x 1080 and maximum settings.

Can also Crossfire it in a year or two to boost performance - some benchmarks show 6870 Crossfire performing better than a 580.
