I am really pleased with the service received from PC Specialist and would highly recommend the laptop. I bought it primarily for video editing and using a DAW (cubase 7)

Any advice or thoughts on the system is greatly appreciated.

Would it be ok to run the laptop solely on the charger rather than having a battery installed when it's on my desk anyway? Will the battery overcharge if it's installed all the time even when the laptop is 'on charge'?

Thank you very much for your help in advance!

I've been wondering similar - I can't see it being a problem running it without the battery, I was wondering though if it could cause the battery to not charge properly if I never let the battery run down between charging.

I don't know if modern batteries are better in that regard or are no longer prone to "memory" issues.

The one thing that's stopped me so far is that my family are used to just unplugging the laptop to move it around which I'd have to train them out of first. Plus it's nice to have the battery as a UPS in case of power cuts.

Would be nice to hear some other opinions.

Li-Ion batteries are a world away from the NiCad batteries you may be used to. Li-Ion batteries do not have a memory (as NiCad do) so leaving the power plugged in does not do them any harm. They will not overcharge nor be damaged. The one thing that Li-Ion batteries don't like is heat, but then neither does your laptop. So as long as you keep the battery as cool as you can there won't be a noticeable degradation caused by leaving it on mains power. However, if you want to run the laptop with the battery out then you can, but a power failure would then mean a loss of all work and possibly software corruption too.

As ubuysa said, its fine to leave the battery in at all times and wont have any negative impact on its lifespan. The machine will in fact run just fine on the mains but you do run the (in this case very unnecessary) risk of a power outage causing issues. Keep the battery plugged in would be my advice.

Thanks everyone for all your input! It's great to be part of such a great online community.

I will just leave the battery in my laptop now!

Thanks again

What do you guys think of my computer?

Nice build, 1TB SSD is fairly sweet though I wouldn't advise it myself it is certainly nice if you can afford it/justify it.

But yeah as laptops go it is a decent little machine.
