Is this a good gaming laptop with chassis for cooler temps??

Hi looking for a decent gaming laptop that will last a few years game at a good level.

Is this spec I've priced up any good or have I missed something??
I know basic specs etc but there's many more here who are smarter than me

Is the chassis good for temps?
I had the defiance model before and didn't need it to be thin and the temps were to high because of it.

This will solely be used in my home as I don't have the space for a gaming desktop.

Any advice would be great guys!!
Thanks

Hiya, nice to see you again :)

Any reason you chose the 8700k over the 9700k? Just wondering, personally I would have done the same even though it's an older processor as I just don't like the 9th Gen ones. But, depends on cost, as the 8700k is pretty sought after now due to tight intel stocks, it may be quite expensive.

The GPU is a beast and will do 144hz 1080p excellent justice for some time.

If it were me, I'd up the SSD to an M2 NVME drive like the samsung evo 970 or WD Black, get around 5 times the performance for not a lot more cost.

Otherwise looks sweet.

A note on the chassis: There have been some reports on the CPU's running quite hot in the Octane, BUT this can be addressed without affecting performance by applying a small undervolt of around 100mV (this isn't an exact science, depends entirely on the silicon you get). We can guide you through doing that if you need, it's not difficult, just software based.

OK updated the ssd so that's sorted.

The 9700k is about £25 more.... Should I be getting that instead of the 8700k?

Also any chassis that's "the best" for cooling as its never leaving the house so size/weight doesn't bother me if good cooling

Thanks for help

The 9700k is newer than the 8700k. The 9700k has 8cores vs the 8700k 6, but drops hyperthreading. That shouldn’t affect any gaming but may do for other uses. Really, the 9700k is the one to go for, they all just run too damn hot generally.

The octane really does have the best cooling of the lot, but it’s mathing it with desktop processors which run hot anyway.

Ah OK so I'll swap to the 9700k as it's mainly a gaming machine.

As long as the temps don't ruin the power of the system and gaming think I'm ready to order.

Thanks

Don’t worry too much if temps are high when gaming when you get it, post back and we’ll talk you through an undervt to bring them down a bit.

As a rough range, I’d hope for low 90’s flat out on the cpu for optimum, but averaging more high 80’s.

GPU ideally around 80 I think flat out.
