Since the forum belongs to PCS who sells desktops/laptops it is not encouraged to give advice on self builds or other retailers. If you can provide a budget someone could come up with a PCS alternative

I see you didn't price out the 760 (about £150 if you get a deal) or an OS. With teh GPU your build would be ~£450. Here is a roughly equivalent spec PCS machine for £475:

Case
STYLISH PIANO BLACK ENIGMA MICRO-ATX CASE + 2 FRONT USB
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i3 Dual Core Processor i3-4150 (3.50GHz) 3MB Cache
Motherboard
Gigabyte H81M-D2V: Micro-ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs
Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 760 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready
1st Hard Disk
1TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB CACHE
Power Supply
CORSAIR 350W VS SERIES™ VS-350 POWER SUPPLY
Processor Cooling
INTEL STANDARD CPU COOLER
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Wireless/Wired Networking
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs
USB Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)

Unique URL to re-configure: http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/quotes/intel-home-office-pc/xOeyFo4Bg7/

If that is your budget (£450 - £500) I think the guys round here should be able to spec up something better.

Hello there

DO check if you mean the MOD or the Standalone/Retail release as they have quite different specs.

In fact its hard to get a firm grasp on what hardware the DayZ SA favours as it's still in early Alpha. One can use Arma 3 as a reasonable (but not infallible) guide for the moment though. I realise the "specs" are up on Steam but still the RV (or Enfusion for SA)"engine" that powers many of BI's games does seem to like some hardware more than others.

I have an old i7 930 (quad [email protected]) I bought from here several years ago and have only upgraded my Ram (12gb) PSU and GFX (ati 7850) and it runs both A2/Dayz mod/A3/DAYZ SA fairly well at 1080 although it is struggling a little with busy A3 environs (I suspect its the CPU bottlenecking). The Stand alone often runs rather well but can bog down in some city areas. I can supply exact specs if needed.

Arma and Dayz are both CPU as well as GFX Card heavy compared to many modern games which are mainly GFX heavy so I tend to advise in general going for a great CPU first as its often easier to upgrade the GFX card later if one is on a tight budget. Hopefully the PCS guys can correct me if im wrong there.

In the suggested builds i see a leaning toward dual core systems, Im not sure that's the way forward to be honest.

Also, the games do like to stream a lot of data so an SSD does help with smoothing out the games in many cases. I however run acceptably with a standard Hard drive.

Feel free to check out the "Can I run it?" threads on the official DAYZ forums as you will find many DAYZ users there who will be able to give you their experiences. (Apologies PCS, I hope i'm within the rules with the above statement. I wont link as we are easily Googled for the URL.)

PCS were superb in advising me with my old PC and even continued to assist me on upgrade info long after its initial purchase.

Good luck with your DAYZ PC!

You can upgrade your PC yourself after purchase, you can also purchase upgrades directly from PCS :) kinda best of both worlds situation imo. However if you upgrade yourself, obviously you won't be covered for the new components and need to be careful not to damage anything.

Just for future reference, for links, you can link to other forums etc. if the info is not here, as long as the content is suitable for 'family friendly viewing' and not directly linking to a competitors site.

Hello there

Yes, in my experience PCS are very helpful in advising for upgrades.

I've talked to our QA guys and the say that the dual core available from here listed above is perfectly acceptable for the DAYZ SA as it is at the moment. Obviously, being an early alpha its subject to change. Also though, they said in their shoes they'd prefer an i5 or i7 to be safe.
