Hi all
I have just compose this laptop for gaming and streaming on. My budget is £1000. Will this be OK as I am a bit rusty now on the latest components. I am unsure about the storage drives figuration.

Hang on, Red Dead Redemption II isn't out on PC. Are you playing all these games on console, and just using the laptop for streaming?

Or are you also going to (e.g.) play AC:OD on the laptop while streaming it to youtube?

Does it need to be 17" or is 15.6" okay? If 15.6" is okay you could look at the Vyper chassis which is cheaper and spend some of what you save on a 2nd stick of RAM and a larger, faster SSD e.g. SX6000

Sorry It is for my son and i put it down be mistake. He will be streaming games form the console but also wants to play games on the pc.
He likes to edit them first but he will move on to stream while playing when he gets more experience and confidence they will turn out ok.
Yes might look at that. Would you keep the first ssd the same?

1) Oh I hadn't seen the first storage device was an SSD. This is what happens when Seagate just call anything they make "Barracuda"

For storage I would usually suggest a 250gb/500gb SSD + 1/2TB HDD. SSD for Windows, programs, and favourite games. HDD for mass storage, archived video footage etc. User files like video and music don't benefit from being on an SSD, so cheaper HDDs are more economical. Also it is very easy to swap PC games between drives (you can do it with a few mouse clicks in Steam). So swapping current favourite games to the SSD is easy and you can keep less-played games on the HDD if you don't want to have to redownload them.

2) Does he need it to be a laptop? A desktop PC will offer more performance per £ upfront, and has the benefit of being upgradable (especially the graphics card). So it costs far less in the long run because you can just upgrade the GPU when Assassin's Creed Whatever comes out and the GPU struggles with it. Desktops can also sport more powerful processors, which is very important for streaming gameplay on PC (because you are asking the CPU to run a video game and encode video at the same time).

If a desktop is viable, a desktop is a much better option.

I will talk to him and And see about a desk top and he can still use his basic laptop if he needs to.
He uses a Elgato capture card at the moment.

NB there is a thing called Steam in-home streaming: https://store.steampowered.com/streaming/

This has nothing to do with youtube/twitch type streaming, but is a feature that lets you run a game on one PC but play it on another in the home. So if a PC is in your study but you want a play a game sat on the livingroom sofa, you can, using any old laptop. The PC in the study would run the game and stream the video to your laptop, which you use to control the game. As far as the laptop is concerned, it's not really more demanding than watching a video.

It's not perfect, but we use it and it's fine for local coop ARPGs, and a great bonus feature if you have a desktop PC and already own a low-end laptop.
