Hello All,

I bought a custom made PC less than a year ago and I have not even used it I find it all too complicated and can't use it I am not intelligent enough to understand it all, do PC Specialist have a returns system so I can get some money back if I return it, it has all top parts in it and the extended warranty etc ??

as far as I know, they have a 14-day full refund option, but not 100 percent sure. In your position, you do have options. If you want advice you can post on here if you are confused, people are really good at helping with things and explaining. If you say what you really are confused about i am sure people with offer help.

If you really do not want it then of course the option is to sell it on a reputable site .

If you want help, then post your full order spec from the order page, then explain the issues and confusion .

Also if it is just general computing you are confused with, then there are guides online, and even courses available if you wanted to go that route

there is so much confusion I am too old to try and get my head round it, I don't want it connected to wired internet but just Wi-Fi, today I have uploaded some AVI videos files I made which work fine on my old pc but do not play on the windows 10 media player ok so I downloaded VLC but they don't play with that programme as well, for these 'apps' to work will the PC only function if connected to wired internet connection because I do not have the facilities to have a wired connection ?

Wired or wireless connection shouldn't make a difference to the types of files you can open / play.

Was it VLC you used on your old PC? If you could play particular AVI files on the old PC you may be able to get them to work on the new one by downloading additional codecs, such as the K-Lite Codec Pack

The AVIs probably don't play because some of the files (known as codecs) required to decode the data in the video are not installed by default in W10/W11...due to Microsoft's tight-arsedness.

I can in a mo, but its windows security not letting me do what I want with my files ie just play them its insane how do I set this pc up so I have full control of my files windows wont let me even play my files copied from my phone its insane how do I change this for everything I want control ?? :( I just changed it because the file I wanted to watch said 'read only' so I change permissions to full control took a while just for that one video but I cant go through this for every single file ??? :( I have had the PC for nearing a year now and I still can not get my head round the windows security and why I do not have control to do the basic of things I am previously a windows 7 user ? It is like Windows 10 presumes you are an idiot and can not do the most basics of things

Let's take it one step at a time otherwise it's easy to cause issues where there are none.

If you can post a screenshot of the file properties and the pathway where it's stored.

I have done it but that was just one file I need to set this PC up so I have total full control (apart from windows programs etc) if I am to continue with Windows 10

What is it you've done?

Windows 10 is no different from windows 7 or XP in this kind of respect, literally no different whatsoever aside from basic layout, but the mechanical workings and how files interlink and program association is exactly the same on any OS.

If you're getting stuck on navigation, you can install Classic Shell or StartIsBack

But I would suggest just taking some time to get used to it, or even better, make the move to windows 11 now, as that's more of a departure than windows 10 was and will be required within a couple of years.

the files had 'read only' ticked so I change the permissions so I have control.... Good or Bad please :) I have been used to Windows since 98 so I know what not to do... but the whole layout of Windows 10 has confused me.... Windows 11 I dunno i can imagine it will be even less user friendly than Windows 10 ? Cheers though :) (Classic Shell was the first program I installed) The problem for me is the whole setup is for portable ie laptop but this is a desktop PC so options included are just not applicable when using a mouse in a static environment, i hate touch screens because my fingers are too chunky and find it so cumbersome I just want a traditional PC experience I will try and educate myself some more via youtube etc if you have any great links I would be very appreciated

I may have misunderstood things here and I apologise if I have.
You can select multiple files at once and then change them all away from read only by unticking that box. There are several ways of selecting multiple files in Windows.
