I would strongly suggest not to purchase this build even remotely as it's configured. To get a better handle on your needs/usage could you provide details of your monitor and your intended usage? Is it for gaming?

Intel isn't a recommended solution right now. The 9th Gen processors would be even less recommended. There are new NVidia GPUs due out on the 17th of September. One of which is the 3070, which is £50 more than the 2070S yet has the potential power of the 2080Ti. One thing is for certain, it'll be a WHOLE load more powerful than the 2070 for next to no price increase (by comparison).

hi

thanks for the quick reply.

I see your point to wait for the new gpu fair enough.

the built will be mostly for gaming, map making (satellite imagery processing etc) and general home usage.

I do not have a fancy monitor yet, that would be another purchase. Currently I have a second hand LG 24EB23 LED monitor but I would like to be able to get a 4k one & VR for flight simms.

What is the issue with intel right now? it seems to me that this tends to switch around between AMD and Intel all the time. I mean how bad can they possibly be?

Is there anything else in there raising any eye brows? I can sit for a few weeks on this and swap the GPU for another one np.

cheers!

cheers for this.

when I add up the SSD that I want and other bits etc it comes to a very similar price to what the intel was.

I can see where the AMD can be better in the finer numbers but in the end a 2k machine should have a fair amount of life in it. at the tail end of its use which should be 6+ years in the future would there come a make or break moment where the 7nm difference be of an issue? I know it is more of a layman's approach this.

Also the i9 is at the bottom of the drop down menu, giving the impression that this is the best intel PCS has which gives you a warm feeling.. for AMDs I have to compromise with second or third best :p

My worry is that the older 2080s will vanish from the market very quickly and then I'll be facing the costs of a brand new card. Do we know that that the 3070 is going to be only £50 more?

Bear in mind Intel are still stuck on PCIe 3, and all current and future GPU's will be on PCIe 4, so you will never get the full throughput of the GPU on an Intel system.

That aside from the security issues, the poor power requirements, the heat issues, the invalid expense for lesser parts, they're just awful CPU's at the moment.

The build @Nursemorph suggested is far far better and will last a lot longer.

Regarding the monitor, if you're going for a top end GPU, then you need a top end budget for a suitable monitor, you'd want 4k 144Hz or Superwide with the 3070 so you'd be looking at around £800 and upwards just for the monitor.

I wouldn't have said the 3080 was worth it personally and doesn't fit within budget anyway.

cool cool

i like where this is going.

Now I have done some more changes, went back to the built that was kindly provided by @Nursemorph and added some bits.

I would like to have an SSD as it can reduce loading times as I have heard of maps etc. unless I am missing something again. Of course the OS would go on the MS SSD or whatever its called.

Also the built had a 750w PSU but when I click to preceed PCS says that it is too much and that 550W will suffice. Just based on this, logic would dictate me to reduce the PSU but is there something else again that I am not aware off?

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/A6!mgKf2Zk/

i added the 2070s as based to what was worded earlier it should be only £50 or so compared to the 3070 so I hope that this brings it closer to the actual budget.

I am going to go all out and say this will be predominately a gaming pc, DCS, M2020, escape from tarkov, war thunder and the like. some photo editing and GIS (satellite imagery processing etc) so consistent and high FPS I take it are a must. That is where the SSD comes into play as well, as loading times for DCS and tarkov are affected from what I have heard.

thanks

right o

so going back to the PSU is it fair to say that a small one (550w) would stem the capability of my GPU to be all it can be?
it might be enough if I start of with the hand me down monitor that I currently found behind a dumpster (LG24EB23) that does 1920xsomething when it is happy.

but as I am planning to get a proper 4k monitor in the future, or two even, should I be looking at more powerful PSUs from the get go?

cheers all!

With underpowered PSU's the PC would run fine until you loaded a game or something that pushed the GPU, then it would actually just power off if it went over threshold on the PSU. It's not that it wouldn't be able to run the card to it's full capacity, the whole computer would just shutdown.
