Keycaps & nail varnish

I'm in the process of moving over to my new Optimus V and before I start painting away I want to know if any of you have any input.

I normally paint the keycaps with clear nail varnish to prevent the letters disappearing. Is this needed for the Optimus?

I would assume so although I have never actually had this problem before with any modern keyboard. The way in which the paint is applied to the keys is the same on most keyboards. I never did this on my own laptop (Dell XPS M1710) and the keys are fine although I don't use it much.
