I hope someone on here can help me. I was using my laptop but had to leave it to for a few minutes. When I went back to it the screen was blank and the laptop would not respond to any input via keyboard or mouse. In the end I forced shutdown by holding down the power button. When trying to reboot all that happens is a brief noise from the CD drive and then the following blink sequence...

Power led
GPU led
Power led
GPU led
Disk led

This sequence repeats over and over.

I've trawled the Web but damned if I can find anything showing what this sequence means. I removed the graphics card, same result. I swapped the HDD, same result. I removed the CD Drive, same result.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Out of interest when was the last time you repasted it?

It's very old now, I have the same one, and still using it every day.

About 18 months ago. It's been a great workhorse. Up to now I've only had to replace the HDD and increase the RAM. Because we have pets I've regularly taken the back off and cleaned the fluff out of the fans and heatsink vanes.

I don't know what the specific light sequence means.

Couple of things to try:

Remove the battery and power supply
Then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to discharge all the caps

Then try power it on just with the power supply plugged in, no battery

Same result unfortunately.

UPDATE: Still not fixed but I thought I'd post the things I was told to try in case it helps others.

1. Disconnect power supply, any connected peripherals and remove battery. Press power button down for two minutes. Reconnect mains power supply and try to start laptop. This made no difference.

2. Change slot RAM is in. I was using both slots so I removed one module. The laptop booted up but after 30 seconds the fans kicked in at full speed, the num lock, caps lock and scroll lock lights started flashing, and then the laptop shutdown. I tried each module in each slot but got no further.

Currently awaiting next email to see what to do next.
