Hi

I am not sure this is the best place to put this so feel free to move. However, I just wanted to kick start the discussion with the community. Hopefully the community or sales can add to this as more is known about the new range of laptops.

Ok, Windows 8 and SharePoint 2013 are shortly to be launched. The later will not run directly in Windows 8 but will in vm say in Client Hyper-v or VMWare Workstation. In my case I have an ailing Samsung R780 i3 although still is a joy to use will need to be replaced shortly.

  • Windows 8 ready or preinstalled
  • i7 Ivy Bridge or AMD equivalent
  • > 250 Gb SSD bootup disk 1
  • > 750Gb 7600 rpm fast hybrid drive disk 2 ( for those VMs)
  • 16-32 GB DDR3 memory
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX graphics ( spec for 1) non gammer and 2) rabid gammer!)
  • Keyboard that is a joy to use and does not feel like typing on a brick:mad:
  • 15.6 or maybe 17.3 HD screen
  • decent sound when watching BluRays
  • BluRay combo drive
  • Good battery life say > 2 hrs
  • Reasonably light when running around between meetings
  • Makes tea!

i dont want anything to do with win 8, as they have got rid of the start button/logo and it now looks like a mobile phone, not a desktop...

I second that. I was supposed to get a 20% performance boost on my CPU, but i think ill pass now, it looks horrible, and has forced steam to start developing for Linux

Hmmm I guess the metro interface is an acquired taste so I I take your points. For me the key thing will be to test the client Hyper-v say against VMWare Workstation to see which one performs the best on the host o/s ( prob win 8).

Do we have any more news on what the new range of high spec Windows 8 laptops and desktops will look like or indeed when on or before, the windows 8 launch data they will be available. I think Metro will be personal taste but the Hyper-v Client v3.0 looks just what I need.
