Hi guys,
I'm looking at replacing my laptop this year as my old one is getting too old. I'm thinking of spending around a grand, +/- a bit depending on bang for buck.

I understand from reading here that there are some new GPUs and CPUs coming in January and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations/build advice that I might consider looking at?

Thanks

I'd say you're 100% right that at that price point it's worth waiting for the new stuff to be released in Jan. However, neither the GPUs nor CPUs are on sale here yet (Intel and Nvidia haven't even even officially launched them yet - everyone just knows they will) so it's not possible to suggest any specs/builds as without a launch we don't have a price.

There's no point drawing up specs on the current GPUs in that price range since they're all a lot weaker than the 1050 and 1050 ti are expected to be (going by leaked benchmarks). For ~£1000 quid I'd think you'd be looking at an i7 7700HQ, GTX 1050 ti, plus 256gb SSD + HDD. But we shall see soon :)

Nvidia.co.uk even has a countdown to an announcement they are going to make at CES http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/home.html (which could be anything, AI, Volta hype, workstation GPUs, GTX 1050 for laptops, whatever) so hopefully we'll start seeing things in the next week. http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/home.html
