Apart from taking the back off the laptop as that would invalidate my warranty and the speakers were working a few days ago I have checked device manager and there are no yellow symbols I also deleted the drivers and rebooted and had a sound when the laptop rebooted but it will not play sound on video's or music

I have run the troubleshooter and get the following error message
Problem found
Audio services not responding
The speaker, headset or headphones is unplugged
I tried to test the sound but got an error messaged
Failed to play test tone
So I am really stumped

Have you got anything plugged into the 3.5 jack like headphones or anything?

When you got the laptop did you clean install or use the test windows?

No nothing however i have just checked the settings again and after the last reboot checking in the sounds tab in the playback tab it is now showing
speakers realtek(R) audio default device
headphones not plugged in
But now this following box that was not there previously
Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
Ready
and now the speakers are working
So three reboots and its working
Not sure if the Digital Audio should be the default but at least I have sound again

Thanks for all your help over this matter much appreciated

If you’re just using the test windows, the system is not configured. You need to do a clean install or you’ll have continuing issues going forwards, my guess is that’s what this is related to.

Oh okay that's a pain Didn't really want to do another clean install but if that's what it takes then will have to
Thanks
Although I can now play music through the laptop and listen to radio

You had the wrong output device selected then. Digital Audio should not be the default, Speakers Realtek should be the default - as you have found.

If you just activated the rest system that was on there I too would strongly recommend that you clean I stall your own copy of Windows.
