Laptop or PC?

Hi,

I've configured one laptop and one PC but not sure whether the Laptop will be slower than the PC?

The spec (processor, ram, hard drive etc) is the same. But the motherboard is different:

PC: gigabyte h97-63
Laptop: 14" SkyFire IV

Will they then run any differently?

when you say pc do you mean desktop?
if so, with the same budget desktops are always better than laptops BUT you cant move them around

Yes I mean the same spec. There isn't much difference in price and I'm just wondering whether they will both be the same in terms of performance?

If its a similar spec (wont be the same because laptop CPU's/GPU's are different to PC CPU/GPUs in general then in terms of everyday performance you probably wont notice a difference.

The laptop will likely run a little hotter (but that's ok) and conversely the PC will likely be a little quieter (because its not as hot)

An i5 in a laptop won't be as good as an i5 for a desktop same with GPUs so the conponents cannot be be same in terms of performance

Windows 7 vs Windows 8

Hi,

I have licenses to both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

I just want a straight forward operating system that is not buggy.

Am I better off going with Windows 7?

How about if the processor in the laptop was an i7? (as posted above)

You need to indicate your intended use. I would say the cpu on your desktop would be better than the laptop for cpu intensive applications

I will be using multiple data intensive software at the same time. It will be attached to an external screen. I have used a PC with Gigabyte Z97, i5 quad core processor, 16gb ram, and 500GB SSD drive on a desktop, and that was perfect for me. Will the laptop spec above match to that?

that laptop model wont be able to match the desktop specs

Thanks, that's a shame though :(

you could match the desktop specs but you would need a bigger laptop, also you have to understand that laptop CPUs are not as powerful as desktop CPUs
you should get a good laptop only if you plan to take it with you and need to work seriously on the move

Personally I'd say just go with Windows 8. Its fine to use and I've not noticed it being buggy.

Advice on Processor Cooling

Which one would be the quietest?

Super Quiet 22dBA Cooler
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
Corsair H55 CPU Cooler

Thanks!

Tripple copper heatpipe would be the most effective and quietest, unless overclocking and then you'd need a watercooler.
