Hi all!

I ordered my laptop (an Optimus 2) on 25th March, and found out today, via the laptop forum, that I could upgrade from a 540M GPU to a 555M GPU for not much money (£26).

However, since I did this I have been upgrading the specs (after discovering I mistakenly chose a dual core I7 processor instead of a quad core) and these are the upgrades - I would appreciate the experts thoughts, my reasoning is explained below. I am especially interested in advice about the HD I upgraded to....

1: GT540M to GT555M
Not available with initial order, only changeable via call to PCS

2: Dual Core i7-2620M (2.70GHz) 4MB Cache to Quad Core i7-2720QM (2.20GHz) 6MB Cache
I just saw core I7, didn't notice the number of cores. My fault for sitting in the sun all day.

3: 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB) to: 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 4GB)
I would have ordered this initially, but it was not available due to chassis model.

4: 500GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD5000BEKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm) to: 500GB SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID, SATA 3 Gb/s, 32MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
This would seem to be an SSD hybrid drive - at this point, I thought why not? and threw an additional £30 at the upgrade, in fear I would regret it later....

Many thanks, forum experts ;)

Ben.

Anybody?

Bump

I am still happy with my upgrades but am especially intrigued by the HD upgrade - I am especially interested in the forums experience with the hybrid drive - has anybody experienced it yet?

Cheers Meds!

My desktop computer boots via an SSD into Windows 7 (optimised to reduce startup time) so I am really interested in how the Momentus XT performs - I will definitely post my opinions of boot times after I receive the new laptop (Saturday 21st is the due date!)

I will record the first few log-in times I use the laptop (First use to last over a couple of days) and make times available shortly afterwards...
