Lead Times

Hi all. I am currently waiting on an Optimus IV laptop that I ordered on the 14th (it is currently on it's 7th working day and is in pre production).

What I wanted to say to anyone currently considering ordering a laptop is to please not go by the 8 to 10 days lead time that pc specialist estimate. When I ordered my laptop I chose the 8 to 10 days delivery option (which is not guaranteed), and then before confirming my order I clicked on the "view current lead times" which told me that pc specialist were currently working to an average of 8 to 10 days. Ok I thought, this sounds fine.

After paying for my order I was then able to log in and see detailed average lead times for all orders being processed by pc specialist. This told me that only around 15% of laptops were being despatched in 7 days and only around 50% were being despatched in 14 days. I think it was then something like 75% despatched in 21 days. These numbers have gone up a bit since, but at the time of me ordering the 8 to 10 days current lead time was quite a long way out and was quite frankly misleading which has left me a little bit disappointed.

Anyway the point of this post is that if you would really like the laptop within 8 to 10 days then go for the faster build option.

Odd, I ordered an Optimus IV on the 16th and it's arriving today...
What specs did you order? It might be that one of the components for your setup is out of stock or something? Especially as it's still in Pre-prod, makes it sound like they're waiting for a component to arrive.

I am in a similar position, although I ordered a few days earlier (11th or 12th of Sept) and it's still in pre-production on the 10th working day. I saw that the Optimus IV spec has changed slightly with new speakers and am slightly worried that this may be delaying the process somewhat...

Glad to hear you are getting your laptop today rb.

To be honest it is not the fact that it is going to take longer than the 10 days estimated. I understand that that was only an estimate and not guaranteed. My gripe is that before I confirmed my order there was a link to check current lead times. However after I paid for my laptop I was able to see that these estimated lead times were not the case and it was actually taking on average, at that point, quite a bit longer to build and despatch laptops.

If I was the cynical type then I could easily think that that was intentional in order to encourage people to order.

I went for a 17", maybe that's why there's not been as much of a delay, a lot of people seem to be going for the 15" ones.

I ordered my Genesis IV on the 13th, got it two days ago at 9 working days.

I'm assuming there's a big rush at the minute as most people's student loans have recently come in and everyone's buying laptops.

I ordered mine on the 22nd, currently at 5 working days. Pre-Production, no idea when it'll arrive.
